Remember Motorcross Maniacs 1 & 2 for gameboy/color?
This looks a lot like how Motorcross Maniacs would look now if it kept the series going and stayed true to its roots.

And this is a very good thing!

EDIT ::: I originally wrote Excitebike for NES, which is very similar but could not do loops and such, but Motorcross Maniacs was the game I was actually thinking of (I spent like an hour and a half trying to figure it out, because I knew the game I was thinking was truly 2D with only 1 lane and floating loops and such, and also had an editor [part 2 had the editor]).

MM1 for GB (recommend you watch all of this, this dude is really good and the tracks get pretty crazy):

Here is MM2 for GBC:

Have to control landing angle/wheel position and everything or you crash, and you also needed to nitro at near perfect times to get gas or you run out and fail (not to mention needing nitro in the first place), etc. - game was a lot harder than it looks. And insanely freaking fun.

Kickstart 2 (I never saw a kickstart 1) for commodore 64 was in 1987. That was the first game of the type I remember playing as a child.
Yes, I am THAT old. Started with atari 2600 at the start of the 80's, then onto commodore "home computers" shortly afterwards, starting with the vic 20.
ROFL I forgot about Kickstart. Yeah it (Kickstart 2) came out only a year after I was born but I played it a bit later, just too young to remember.

Kickstart was less about speed, more about balance over obstacles though if I remember correctly.
