How do I keep my ministers loyal/happy?
after playing for some hours now, I find it strange that the people of the country 'love' me (on each electoral I got more than 70%) but the ministers aren't loyal to me and upright resign one after another. Regardless of their position or which groups they like. Also, it really doesn't help that they don't say *what* makes them leave.

As of now, I've only 3 ministers left that give me more than 1.0 points and are still somewhat loyal to me.

Currently there doesn't seem to be any way to do so.

The dev has mentioned that he intends to modify this. Here's the post.

thanks for the link, unfortunately that only talks about the 'firing' option, I only had to fire the first one because he wasn't loyal anymore and only gave me 1 point. Which still leaves the question why those guys get unuseful in the firstplace?!

You have to enact policies they agree with, otherwise they will not be happy, if you higher socialist ministers with trade unionist support then turn your nation into a tax free haven for mega corporations and elminiate social spending they will not be too happy.

Also, while I'm not 100% certain, I think giving them "attention" each turn is beneficial too (as long as the changes are positive). Not as beneficial as making policies that appeal to their political leanings, but it still seems to help.

Like... whenever possible, try to make one positive change in each of the main categories.

So, this would be something like maxing hybrid car initiative (+ to tax minister), maxing food controls (+ to public services minister), maxing biofuel subsidy (+ to transport minister), removing pollution controls (+ to economy minister), maxing food stamps (+ welfare minister), and maxing citizenship tests (+ foreign minister).

Obviously, this won't work on turns where you have to make a change that costs a lot of points, but during turns where you are just making small changes to small policies, try to hop around from area to area to "spread the love"... Even if you make cuts, I think that "attention" to the category might help keep them loyal.

....

It's just my impression, so I could be way wrong, but it does seem that spreading your attention like this helps to keep them loyal (even when some of the changes you make run contrary to their political leanings).

I particulary notice this helps with USA because my Law and Order and Public Services ministers always lose points very fast, but if I start to just make changes in their category each turn, it seems to help.

Of course, the most beneficial result seems to come from making changes in each category every turn (or as close to that as possible), and to make sure those changes are popular with all ministers (which is pretty hard to do).

Also when they get pissed off you take a hit on the points you can spend every turn, keep them happy you max out the point contributions they make.

About that though I seem to be limited to 56 but I need 60 to get rid of the NHS in the UK, no matter what I do I always seem to stop at 56. Weird.

I have to disagree with what MiM said about "spreading the love". I've played at least 6 separate games where I've tried to stop the Law and Order Minister from bailing by opting in policies in the Law and Order branch that Liberals and Ethnic Minorities approve of. Yet every single turn he drops a couple decimal places, and before I even make it to re-election he either resigns or I have to fire him.

Yeah, it's irrelevant meddling in their particular areas from what I can tell, Ministers only care whether your approval ratings are positive for their two constituencies, whether they're in one of their preferred portfolios, and the event-based modifiers, such as disliking other ministers resigning or being fired.

Uh, look at the date on my comment that you quoted.... I made that comment 3 years go. Talk about a major thread necro.

Maybe things are different now with the game's mechanics. Or maybe they aren't and I was just wrong.

IDK and IDC. Haven't played this game in years.

yeah same here. The Game was too US centric and had too many flaws. Removed it soon after I wrote the comment in this thread.

Check the person I was replying to who was the one who actually necroed the thread. ;)
