You do not want to tick them off either. Buggers have sent assassins after me a few times.
Really the Religious group? Isn't that against their belief?
The game does not represent religious group very well. There should be two religious groups: moderate and fundamental. In real life moderate believers are not offended by evolution, organ donation etc. Maybe in Democracy 4 we will see more voter groups.
Religion and Fundamentalism go hand in hand. While its true that not all who are religious are extremists it is undeniable that as the percentage of the religious increases so too does their more zealous of members.
If you keep the religious happy then the zealous tend to keep quiet, if you start to impliment a scientific worldview and certain types of social policy it becomes a different ball game.
As with any group; terrorists will be recruited from the overzealous and the disatisfied. That is ultimately where the differences between fundimentalist and moderate begin to emerge.
One will look at an abortion clinc and either begrudgingly accept the right to choice or engage in peaceful protest against it. The other will simply resort to violence, breaches of human rights and sadism.
While it is true all groups engage in extremism it is also true that the religious have far more buttons to push. These buttons are rarely governed by reason unless it represents a conflict of interest. A moderate religious individual is someone who has a conflict between his belief and his ideals.
Example; a liberal christian must decide whether stem cell research should be banned for his religion or upheld for his fellow man. Whatever his choice it will rarely involve killing doctors because of the conflict it would represent. An extremist has no such conflict so this course of action becomes far more viable in his mind.
