"Video device does not support video resolution"
Hi there, I was playing with a kinda bad resolution with the nGlide DLLs, however I have been getting constant crashing, and the crashing is getting even worse. So I deleted the NGlide DLLs and tried to run the game with DirectX7, but I got the error "Video device does not support video resolution", the version of DirectX I have is DirectX12 which isn't compatible with Directx7, which is probably the reason for why it's crashing. I don't have any OpenGL drivers on this computer and even then I doubt the backwards compatability is that good. If i play with the software graphics I get ugly black bars and it runs like dogwater on higher resolutions. What should I do?

Ok, so... you do not want to delete the nglide dll's... except for glide2x.dll. That one you should delete cuz it messes up the 3dsetup applet--not allowing a bunch of possible resolution settings to show up in the list. Typically, you'd set it to use DX 7 anyway.... in 3dsetup... but, the glide files will still get referenced and could cause issues if deleting all of them... not sure but, I'd just leave them as they shouldn't be causing any issues.

As for DX7... having DX 12 on your system has nothing to do with it. In fact, most people these days probably have DX 12 installed cuz it's part of Windows. BUT! DX 7 is NOT part of newer Windows operating systems--cuz MS thought it wasn't going to be needed anymore and DX 11 or 12 could do the job instead. Goes to show how much they know about PC gaming I guess. So, you should already have installed the DirectX End User SDK which re-installs some of the older DX files needed by most older games. Do a search on MS website and you should find the link for it's download.

On top of that, you should also have installed all the older MS Visual C+ Redist. versions. That was another thing MS thought, oh newer version should be backward compatible... NOT... or, at least, not always. There's a convenient ALL-In-One VC Redist. package linked on Tech power up website... it's pretty nice of them.

Then there's another older legacy driver you should have installed. For Nvidia, it would be Legacy PhysX 9.12.1031 and / or 9.13.0604. I say either / or on those cuz sometimes people have problems with 9.12 vs 9.13 working for them. But, in my experience, the older games were looking for 9.12 and that's what I've always used. For AMD gpu's, it is called something else but, can't remember off top my head... whatever AMD used to use similar to PhysX. I'm not saying all these are necessary for THIS game but, they are for many older games so, you should get them all installed. Just search either AMD or Nvidia Drivers pages and you should find the legacy stuff.
