Hi Penguin/GreatMage,

Wanted to report a few bugs with 1.28, mostly related to Christian Coder's mod.

First of all, I think it's simply amazing that you were able to get Christian Coder's mod to work in 1.28 using the Parallel World feature (which is really great--I love that I can switch so easily between all the different mods), including all of the CC balance changes to races and classes. However, whatever the interaction is between the CC mod and 1.28 Parallel World has created a bunch of weird bugs. I demonstrate them in this video:

Hi! In the video, your question:


1) Bards in Christian Coder's mod have bugged Wizardry learning
2) Book of Poison in Christian Coder's mod can't be learned by some characters
3) "Repeat last spell cast" hotkey does not work in Christian Coder mod (does work in vanilla and Biomod)
4) "Use item", up arrow to select item causes a crash in Christian Coder mod and biomod



Response:
1) First, a few days after 1.28 release version, and then, I look in "Bards in Christian Coder's" comparison of both different versions, if a bug is found, then fix it.
2)
I looked in "Wizardry 8 Fan-Patch 1.28 Spell Editor 0.2.2", spell #104 (Poison), there is a checkmark disabled "Bishop".
I looked at the spell compare with id 102 to 113 - without mod and mod "Christian Coder's mod 2.0".
It is clear, the author of the mod created 10 new spells with the permission "Bishop" and new 2 spells with the forbidden "Bishop". Presumably, the author of the mod another new spell with the forbidden "Bishop" and another 10 new spells with the permission "Bishop".

Okay, I will fix the display of the icon to check the checkmark "Bishop" and the red background above the icon of the book item.

3) After installing build 6600 - did troubleshooting step 3 help?

I see that you currently have build 6519 (02/18/2024), but you can see the inscriptions "New version available: Beta: 1.28.6600". This means that you need to update the build to 6600 (04/07/2024) via the "Check for updates" button.

1.28 Build 6600 - not only a critical hotkey bug, but new hotkeys have been added.

1) Fixed my bug: when the item is already taken (located on the cursor), when you press the hot key "CTRL+ENTER" - information about the item. In addition, in the "inventory" panel -> selected item -> information about the item.

2) Fixed a very old CFAgent bug, in the LUA function "cfa.util.showMessageInGame", the argument passing is Russian text, but the text output is displayed as "АААААААА".

1) Fixed my critical bug: hot keys: "Up" arrow in the "inventory" panel, to select an item - an item. If 1 element is pressed up, it causes a crash.
2)Changing hotkeys: part of the functionality "Global keys" (12345678) in "CHARACTER SELECTION" from "Keyboard".
Previously it was: SHIFT+12345678 (target character) - from the selected spell from the list.
Now the user assigns, for example F1 (Character Selection 5).

When you press the buttons "12345678" the order will be priority:
a) when the item has already been taken (located on the cursor), when you press the hotkey "select character 1/2/3/4/5/6” - the item is sent to the character’s inventory. If the inventory is full, then to the squad's inventory
b) cast a spell, for example (heal) the selected character.
c) the power of the spell X is selected

3)Change: "Hot keys” moved "BEFORE” to "AFTER”, which makes it possible to easily use buttons from the "Keyboard”. A bug in "New hot keys” was also fixed - there was no register restoration in the assembler.

If there is no "inventory” panel in the window, then the mouse arrow will throw the item to the ground.

1) Added hotkeys when, during a battle, you can select the target "Sector” spell from the list by pressing only "ENTER” (previously: left-click).
2) A hotkey has been added, when during a battle, when selecting the target spell "Radius” from the list, place the staff only "ENTER" - (previously: left-click). If the order is confirmed, then "ENTER”.
3)Changes to the logic of the "ESC" hotkey: in the "spell" panel, when you select a spell with the target type "Radius", the staff is on the ground. If you change your mind about choosing a spell and press ESC, then before the staff and panel disappeared from the window, now only the staff disappears.

However, I did not like these changes:

Taking away SHIFT+12345678 from "selected character" is very confusing. As I show here:

If I want to cast Heal Wounds, here are the key presses

1 - Select character 1
C - cast spell
F6 - select Divine Realm
W/S - up/down until Heal Wounds is selected
In the old version, I would now press "1" to select Power Level 1. I can see in the colored circles if I have selected the correct power level. But now I can't see if I chose the right power level.

In the new version, I now press "1" and that selects the target. But I also can't see which target I've selected, and can't fix any targeting mistake. Because the next button I press automatically chooses the power level and casts the spell.

Before it was better, because SHIFT+12345678 was always to select the target character, and 1234567 was always to select the power level. Now character and power level are the same 12345678, so you can't fix any mistakes.

The issue in Christian Coder mod with Bishops not being able to learn Poison is not a big problem. In Cosmic Forge, I can't see that Bishop is restricted from Poison. I guess it's hidden somewhere that Cosmic Forge can't see it.

I'm using Cosmic Forge v 4.27.

Also, installing build 6600 did not fix issue #3 in Christian Coder's mod (only). #3 is not a problem in vanilla.

Right now, I prefer build 6519 instead of 6600. I prefer the SHIFT+12345678 to select targets.

I just did an install of Dodd the Slayer mod using Parallel World, and the "repeat last spell" also doesn't work there.

I'm going to do a clean install of DSM on top of 1.28 WITHOUT using Parallel World, and see if that fixes it.

5 months ago, fan user "amwrag" suggested that I would like to refuse the numbers of the spell on the characters, only through the settings, the "Keyboard" tab, it is easy to assign keys from "PC SELECTION KEYS".
But, he wrote that it is not convenient for the keyboard to search for numbers beyond 5.

I remember, about a year ago, modder Orachin also wrote the same thing, it is necessary to do only in "Spell cast on Characters" from assign a key from "PC SELECTION KEYS", but I did not do it. And now I did it.

I'm using Cosmic Forge v 4.27.
In the program "Wizardry 8 tool 1.0.8", there is an alternative editor "Spell Editor", there are many options.

Or the option:
Cosmic Forgre -> Spell Editor -> Poison (id 104) -> options "bt156": change 0 to 1.

@GreatMage - I just tried a totally new, clean install of Wizardry 8, with a clean install of fan patch 1.28 Build 6519, and a clean install of Dodd the Slayer Mod.

The "repeat last spell" hotkey (Shift+C in my keyboard settings) still does not work. Since it does not work in Dodd the Slayer Mod, does not work in Christian Coder mod, but DOES work in Biomod and in vanilla, I can only assume that any mod that adds new spells breaks it in some way.

Maybe that is helpful to you in bugfixing!

edit - I installed Cosmic Forge 4.34 and Parallel World support is working! Thank you for the tip.

Also, I can become accustomed to the current hotkeys. I prefer SHIFT+12345678 for spell targeting, but the current version also works. I am just not used to it so having the hotkeys changed is confusing.

When I replied to the comments and showed my video and text, but the post "6" for a very long time "This message has not yet been analyzed by our automatic content verification system. Decided to re-send comments in the forum, my comments appeared, but not "7", but my "8".

I decided to delete the post "6" because of the duplicate, and then I saw all the mess of comments on the forum 0_O.

Ok, I watched your video. I noticed you used vanilla Wiz8 and Gray Tiefling's mod.

I tried resetting to defaults (SHIFT+M) for cast last spell in Dodd the Slayer mod and it does not work.

For me, SHIFT+C (or SHIFT+M) do work correctly in vanilla and Biogoo's mod. But it doesn't work in DSM and Christian Coder's mod.

So I think it is a specific bug interacting with those mods.

I found my bug. Apparently there are a lot of new spells, it seems that the memorization of the spell for a fast key does not work.
It looks like a critical rare bug. When I finish implementing the "Localization of the Polish Interface", we will see to make out the bug.


I see your video: there is no antialiasing and not very good textures. You can improve the graphics, you can see the file screenshot "Wizardry 8 with NVIDIA.jpg" is located in the folder in the root game =).

Yeah, I suspected it had something to do with new spells. That's why I was getting the problem in DSM and CC but not Biomod, which doesn't add new spells.

Looking forward to the update.

Re the graphics, my NVIDIA Control Panel is not detecting Wiz8_1.28.exe. Only finds the default Wiz8.

I'll figure out how to fix that later.

Made a bug fix, thanks for reporting, really a very old bug.

Today fan patch 1.28 released a new build 6655. You can update via the "Check for updates" button from the "Launcher 1.5" window.
