Just FYI, It worked for me under Windows 10 (64 bit pro) and most recently under Windows 11, just fine, using only the Steam default and no adjustments. I also had the game when it first came out and on a variety of operating systems since then. Not everyone is so lucky, but there is a chance.

On the other hand you could run into a ton of troubles. There are helpful posts and at least one guide to help you fix that. No guarantees.

At least the cost, even at current full price, is trivial relative to the fun of this game (just IMO, obviously). Yeah, it is worth the potential trouble.

Hey, a key point, when it is loading it can take a VERY long time with only a black screen. Do nothing. If you start hitting keys like [enter] or [esc] it can mess up the entire install. Be patient. Also, if you do need to reinstall it is possible it might not be clean and that can cause problems. My recommendation is to buy, install, and if there are problems you do not wish to mess with then apply for refund within the allowed window of time.

for me the start up is a tad wonky. i need to launch it from steam, and then i have to open the window. but it runs fine.

Personally, I always create a shorcut on my desktop directly to the apps *.exe file. Then I set compatibility to 'Run as administrator' if I have start up problems. And, if it's an old game, I set program compatibility to the correct version of windows for when the app was produced if having starup problems still. Also, for old games, you need to download / install the DirectX end-user SDK runtime from Microsoft so you get DX 9 back...since it's not included in Win10 and newer. Also, some real old games need the Legacy PhysX 12.x.x.x (for Nvidia) or AMD's comparable version.
But, just using a direct shortcut to the Wiz8.exe and setting compatibility to 'Run as admin' should do the trick. Note**you want to run the '3Dsetup.exe' and then 'Nglide.exe' first to setup graphics before launching the game--which may solve launch issues for some people also.

My main fix for sorting this out after many attempts at posted "fixes" was to simply run as an admin within the steam directory folders. It won't launch with the steam features intact though like recognising you are in game or letting you use overlay.

I only play the game these days on Linux Mint with Proton Experimental Build enabled on steamplay. With that I have no issues. Linux Mint is actually a better OS in my experience for running old games than windows 10 is

Runs fine for me. I recommend Fussing with trying out the various options that present themselves if you hit Play from the stream library rather than the desktop icon that bypasses.

There is an option to launch 3d setup and another for configure nGlide.

Install the game, copy the files out of the Steam folder, drop the 1.28 patch on it, set up the resolution - mission complete.
