Killing Marten While Insane
How likely/possible is this?
Assume a full, balanced party with 2 casters and 4 melee guys... maybe level 18-ish.
Asking for a friend.

Tell your friend that after he gets destinae dominus, he should not leave conversation but instead go into "trade". There he can open his inventory and give destinae dominus to the guy with the helm to prevent party wide insanity.

I would say this doesn't happen, because this is a conversation, not combat. I never saw combat initiated by insanity of party members.

I am pretty sure he reffers to the situation where you get destinae dominus but attack Marten anyway using the "attack" conversation button because you want the XP from the quest as well as from the kill. This leads to a party wide insanity, as destinae dominus is placed into the party inventory and the helm of serenity only protects the party if the helm wielding character has destinae dominus in his or her inventory. To prevent that from happening, see my first post.

My question is really about fighting without the helm. I'm guessing the party will be babbling or foaming like 75% of the time. I don't think Marten does that much damage, so it would only be a matter of time. Melee guys occasionally hit and casters occasionally heal.

I know it's a pretty bad idea... I'm just trying to gauge how bad it is.

Main risk is amok. High geared fighters and critting Ninjas and Sams will do more damage to the party than Marten. I recall biogoo once did a solo run from Sea Caves up to the knowledge temple on AP while insane, so those lost rounds from babbling do not seem to cost too much effectivity. Solo of course has the advantage that you don't hurt yourself.

But how do you get insane if you dont have the helm in the first place? Marten wont hand you the destinae dominus without it. You have to take it from his loot bag after you defeat him.

As for difficulty, in the earlier speedruns (before the "freeze" exploit), I killed him with level ~14 party consisting of characters that got 95% of their skill ups from level ups. He is not that bad.

Ah - perfect. Thanks biogoo - that's what I was trying to figure out. So, all that happens is I don't get the 400k experience? I'm thinking the Renaissance Lute is going to be important for a Rampage run and I want to get it as soon as I'm able to survive going underwater and then kill Nessie and Marten. I figure I can then portal out and drop it in a chest.

Basically I'm more scared of Zant than I am Nessie and Marten so I'm considering going without the Helm.

Killing Marten gives 668k exp divided by the number of party members. The reward for having the Helm is 400k for everyone. Never really tried to get both.

The helm is not related to Z'ant. Go to MB, pull the lever, take the Idol, go to Crock or use the save exploit, if you go to Crock, do his mission or kill him, get the idol, go to Trynton, get the Helm. No Z'ant.
