Beanie head gear?
This cap has -10 intelligence and nothing positive. Am I missing something useful about this head gear? I usually sell it as I find no use for it.

Nope. I never saw a point to it, but i think there’s a mod somewhere that lets you merge it into something.

I guess the developers just didn't like beanies.

Nope!

Just like in real life, people who wear beanies gain nothing but the disapproving looks of their peers.

There are several items in the early game to disabuse the player from thinking it is okay to use unidentified items. The smart player does not put on an item unless he or she knows for certain what it is.

There's a hat that adds some points to locks and traps, but i think it can only be used by people who don't have the locks and traps skill.. so that's totally pointless.

Not at all! In a party without a rogue it’s essential. That hat plus thieves buckler, knock knock, and detect traps makes adventuring possible.

There is a reason why this hat is found before anything locked/trapped and why it is not even hidded :)

But unless a party member has the skill you don't get the bonus, example: giving a fighter a thieves buckler will NOT grant him the ability to do locks and traps because he doesn't have that skill ability, same with that hat... which can't be worn by anyone who has the skill. Unless i have it all wrong,

and that is exactly the case. You do indeed have it all wrong. Wear the hat and your fighter will tumble that lock as if a rogue with exactly 10 skill. It’s been done by others, including myself.

I'm not it works like that, i had an item that gave points to iron will, but on the character sheet it would say 'this skill is closed for this member' because it hadn't been unlocked yet... i assume it was the same with all the others.

Try it. It really works. I know this from experience, not assumptions.

Every game is different and I found 3 Beanies in this one. I was never really tempted to try one on, however.
