Biogoo is the new “Godfather” of wizardry8
Biogoo, you’re insane with your knowledge and experiments of wizardry 8. I played a lot, but learned a lot from you. Just wanted to give. A shout out to you bro.

Good info. Thanks.
Alright then, here’s a challenge:
Pick a party (and size) but never wear armor or use weapons. Just put up your dukes 😋 I know, people would just go with ninja and/or monk. But I am curious as to how strong a fighter would be with continuous bare knuckle brawling.

It’s my “Naked but Not Afraid” concept 🤓

biogoo once did challenge he called bad breath. Damage from Dracon Breath exclusively. He also youtubed a video, but if I remember correctly, they did wear armor.

Issue with the bare handed fighter is he cannot build weapon skill, contrary to Ninjas and Monks. So I would expect his chance to hit becomes too low to take down anything.

duo of monk and ninja is probably the best bet. They cannot wear good armor anyway, except the robes of rejuvenation for the monk, martial arts is good enough, they both have stealth, and their capabilities complement nicely: They have heal, stamina, elemental + soul shield, identify, knockknock and divine trap, detect secrets, haste, an elemental. The ninja has locks and traps, even pickpocket. So this "nude combo" can do anything and go anywhere required by the game. On top the passive damage of Ring of Fire and Razor Cloak, I would expect this to be a very nice game.

I’m assuming you switched classes at some point?
Yep, I did that. No class switching too!

Ninjas do not autopenetrate with sling. The skill is called "throw and sling", so sling is not throw.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Ceterum, thanks for the thoughts. Yeah, you’re right. The fighter would always be stuck in first gear.

Biogoo, what the heck!!??!
I can’t think of how you pulled that off.
If you have that run on you tube, I missed it.

I've seen and done a few games where I've upped on the critical hit characters dex/speed/senses. Yes, you instant kill more often earlier. The problem is...well like I said, encumbered status. Plus, a lot of enemies if you had just pumped strength you'd have killed them in one turn anyways rather than gambling. And in an unmodded game, only Nessie really has enough HP where instant kill would be wanted (though I've NEVER seen nessie die to instant kills).

The solo fairy fighter run can be found on the front page of my channel, or here:

It is a little bit cheesy at the start, but no bug exploits :)

I had a question (post) about my Liz fighter getting two swings per attack. I think I disappeared..(?)
Anyway, he’s level 13 now. Wielding the Bipennis, he was training with dual axes. Even under haste, he still does only two attacks per round sometimes just one!?
Any insight?

It's the bipennis, -6 to initiative on the weapon won't affect your attacks per round, but greatly limits swings per attack. It will be several levels, even with high speed, to unlock that second swing.

Check peddroelm's formulas in the guide section here on Steam.

For dual wield, there is an additional malus explained by biogoo in another post in this forum, around begin 2018.

Basically:

Additional DEX + SPD, temporary from spells (Haste and Superman) -> more attacks

Higher Level -> More attacks

Fighter classes get additional attacks earlier than rogue classes earlier than caster classes.

Higher close combat and weapon skill -> More attacks

Dual wield -> Less attacks, unless compensated by DW skill

Weapon initiative plays a role in number of swings per attack, not number of attacks, as Azerit stated. It also plays a role in the sequence when you attack.

Look at the formulas, build yourself a small spreadsheet in excel, how far you are away from that second/third attack or swing. Maximum is 3 attacks in main and 2 off-hand. Some weapons, eg Bloodlust and 2-/3X-Bows, have additional attacks on top.

You will get a second / third attack in each round, the number of swings per attack is random.

Wow! Thanks for all the info. I wanted an “Axe Murderer”, now I’ll just have to wait longer/ work harder to get him swinging like Paul Bunyan 🤓

That is the one bad thing about wiz 8's base game (explained by the fact it kind of had to be rushed to be put out). The class balance is solid, but the gear balance isn't there. Like, there's no really good Axe (except the woodman's axe iirc that's ranger only that does 2x to plants. IF you're fighting plants that thing actually is great, but you let me know if there's a lot or one really strong plant monster to make this worth while)

vysionier Aug 29, 2018 @ 4:52pm
Lol, yeah axes suck. Sorry! Gotta do swords, maces, or staves.
CeterumCenseo Aug 29, 2018 @ 10:41pm
Don't forget Polearms! If you can afford going without a shield, Polearms are the strongest "normal" weapons far into the game.

Flamestryke:
Woodman's Axe can be used by Fighter and Ranger.
The highest Plant monster is the L11 version of the Rank Weed.
There are Wood Spirits in that category, and wood spirits show up as late as AP. Would be an interesting test, but in any case, Axes are the most unbalanced weapon:
Low initiative, no status effects (except for 2 late game weapons), short range, mediocre damage, not available as class bonus and no good sequence in char development.
