Running Wizardry 8 CD version on Windows 10

I have both the GOG and Steam versions of the game and recently got the original first version of the game on CD ROM. Nothing happens when I try to run the game. I was able to install the game and can use disc #1's menu. I've tried some of the things in the guide but I was wondering if anyone here plays the CD version on Windows 10 and how they got it to work if they did?

The only "cd" i have are .iso from pirate-bay, so not sure if anyone at all can help here ?
Also, if i recall, original CDs are version 1.0.0, so you might to want install all 3 patches: 001b, 123, 124 and run with XP compatibility mode.

I'm trying to avoid using the patches. The patches nerfed pickpocketing. The reason I got the 1.0 version was so that I could pickpocket for the 3 nearly impossible items to steal in the game without cheating.

But isnt like w/o the first v001b patch you cant enter Ascension Peak/Cosmic Circle ? I remember the game was always to crash

Ok, installed pirate-bay version, in order to play insert Disc#3

I tried using administrator privilages and with xp mode. This is a pain. By the way, I am going to switch to Gog and Steam after I steal what I want.

Welp, cant help it with Actual physical CD.
DaemonTools with pirate-bay version works fine, game loads, saves and newgame.

I guess I could mount the cd on a fake drive.

In my case I can't run the steam version at all through steam. I have to move the game folder to C:\ then change the name of the WIzardry 8 folder (without this step it won't work) and then set admin+xpmode. Only then it works. Funny since Wiz 6 being a lot older game runs just fine simply 'cuz it's dosbox.

What did you change the name of the folder to? Did you take the entire Sirtech folder or just the game folder?

Changed the name from Wizardry 8 to Wiz8. I have no idea why this works for me but it does.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!! It's so crazy that you have to do something like that to play the game.

When in doubt, do not install old games into paths that contain folders with more than 8 characters and empty spaces.
