I never used Light after the first 3 or 4 times casting it. Even in the Retros i could always see fine.
Also, for Priest and others using the Divinity school only, Light is the only spell prior to Lightning (a level 6 spell) in the Fire realm. Generally my Priest, if there is one in the party, casts Light whenever the party rests.
I believe, from posts earlier and analysis done by players that stealth is more difficult when the Light spell is on... but who wants to hide? I do not believe it impacts the effectiveness of Stealth in battle for defense from and avoiding notice of enemies, only when trying to sneak past foes unnoticed outside of battle... and I am just sharing what other players posted years ago after analysis, so use your own experience if your game strategy has you sneaking past foes.
By casting light whenever resting but not actually taking the time to train it beyond that, typically the fire realm skill of the Priest will be about 20 when the level 6 Lightning spell becomes available for selection. It is a nice spell against foes vulnerable to fire (resistance closer to 100 than 200 if Powercast is developed). My main application is in a magic damage focused party, which is one of my favorites.
In other kinds of parties the one I have cast light can vary, like maybe an Alchemist for Fire Bomb, when available can hit the ground running.
If you need neither the visibility nor the Fire Realm experience, like the previous poster, the spell has no real value.
