Wizardry 2020
It's just a dream at the moment but I'm hoping that some day this game can be re-released with an all new graphics engine. Until the lottery is won or the right investor can be reached enjoy the prezi and adventuring through Lost Guardia on Steam ;)

you mean like wizardry X coming out soon?
Moog Oct 6, 2013 @ 12:56pm
I'm not sure, I haven't seen anything about that. Definitely not like Wizardry Online. Instead of a new game it would be a remake of the original Wizardry 7 with todays standards. If it's a complete success, then a conversion of Wizardy 6 as well.

I think that if you wanted to move forward with this the person to contact is D.W. Bradley, the original author and programmer of the game, and ask him if he'd like to do it again. After all, it's already been done once: Wizardry Gold is nothing but a Wiz 7 remake to modern (at the time it was done) standards, and he did the work on that so far as I know.

Ever since I played Crusaders of the Dark Savant so many years ago I've been trying to follow him to see what, if anything, he's been working on, just because I loved the writing that he did in the Wizardry games so much, but he hasn't done much of note since so far as I am aware. His game studio, Heuristic Park, made a few games but nothing close to the work he did in the Wizardry titles that he was involved in.

My personal opinion is that Bradley had a winning mix of solid gameplay and writing in Wiz 6 and 7, and hasn't been able to do anything to beat it since 1992 despite a few attempts. Perhaps the best thing for him to do would be to go back to what he did best and rework on the Wizardry titles, or convince him to write a new game using the same basic first person dungeon crawling setup. I'm not sure who has the rights to the game, but that might also be another way to look into getting this done.

Wizards and Warriors wasn't too bad, I thought. Just chock full of bugs and a few broken scripts and enemies. I actually enjoyed it. Not the best game out there, but it wasn't the worst either. Worth the money I paid.

Hey Moog, any updates on this, IMHO, Wizardry 7 24 years later remains in a league of it's own, far and away the greatest video game ever. Did you ever set up a kickstarter? Get in touch with DW Bradley? I started Wizardry 7 back in 1993 and finally finished it fall 2015. Spent the ten bucks to get Wizardry 8, but was a bit disappointed on a number of points. Love the idea of a modern remake, and would totally kick in on a kickstarter. Also did a google search of Wizardry X, it didn't look much like Wiz7 to me...

Hi Willo, thanks for the boost of support. I just tried to reach out to him and his team, we will see if there is a response. I think they will like the presentation anyways. I'm still in love with the idea, and with the big breakthrouhgs in Kickstarter, like Shadowrun, Pillars of Eternity, and The Bards Tale, I think a Wizardry 2020 would get big attention. They just need a team capable of building the infrastructure of awesome grafics and gameplay. The story is already perfect.

This game is my favorite RPG .. I played it since it first released. Back then I played it on Win95 in MSDOS Mode ..

25Mhz CPU (486/25sx) with 4 Megabite RAM, 1Mb Video Card, and soundblaster.

I have several of the older Wizardry games on Nintendo that I purchassed on ebay.

I kept an old Win95 computer around just so I could still play my old Wiz-7.

Once I noticed Steam had Wiz-7 available for Win 7, and Linux .. It was a MUST HAVE !

I remember how difficult it was to configure Win95 to get the sound, CD drive, and mouse to all work properly in the game. Memory in the 640k DOS region had to be set just right.

I still have the old Wiz-7 CD Rom Disk

I remember fiddling with the config.sys and autoexec.bat files for hours trying to adjust the memory to that sweet spot. And it was always worth it when the game worked xD

I still have my Wiz7 box that came with the floppies in a position of honor above the gaming table.

I also have my mordorcharge card.

I'd love to see them update it.

Lol me too. I bought the game at Radio Shack back when they still sold Tandy's :D

Rather than putting the game into a modern 3D-video engine .. I'd suggest keep the simple graphics and animations .. but make a number of new campaigns.

Maybe add a multiplayer feature and make everything MOD-able, so fans can create-share new scenarios and worlds.

Funny thing about all those old games we played... we learned so much making them play we were the Computer experts in places we worked compared to people that had no clue on how to open their applications. We knew how to modify bat files and configs and use dos commands and navigate the directory structure. We knew how to upgrade our computers to play the next gen games as they came out.

Now Im fat and lazy and buy them on steam lol. Ok not quite true I have an abandonware library that runs on dosbox and still love old titles like Starflight.

They don't all need Dosbox. Ur-Quan Masters is <3.

I loved the original and have Masters as well. Talk about another game that could use a modern update. :) The variety of alien species was the best.
