Some updated SVGA graphics, specifically portraits and the area around the game screen.
A digital manual/help system built into the game.
Compatibility with Windows 95.
There might have been some added voiceover work too, i'm not sure. My own opinion is that the original Wizardry 7 looked and played fine. I think the biggest change between 7 and Gold is compatibility.
I've always liked the DOS version better. The Gold version feels like a hackjob.
Anyways, I played Wiz7 for months and years, but I'm not getting it again on Steam, it's just too dated at this point. If someone could remake it in a modern engine Grimrock style that would rock, but it's probably not even possible. Who even holds the franchise rights now after Sir-Tech are dead for 10 years, hmmm?
- New high-res portraits (your mileage may vary, many ppl criticized Gold's portraits for looking "anime-like")
- Improved graphics, still basically the same graphics but the resolution seems to be higher and the viewport and UI is less pixelated and more smooth looking.
- Voice narration (absolutely horrid, sounds like the guy they got for the narration was just some programmer they had in the office)
- New and improved interface.
- New higher quality music and sound effects (again many ppl criticized the "techno" sound of the new main menu track, but you can't deny the new music is higher quality than the old MIDI stuff).
- AUTOMAP (the best feature of Gold)
Can we pin one of the "Is this gold" threads somehow? I have a feeling this is going to be a common question.
I just recall my brother and I, playing this game and just having a blast because of the narration.
