Wizardry7 gold:Warning! Game wont start

Everytime I start Wizardry 7 gold it says unable to start movie and it wont start. It will display a window with some tabs but all of them are grayed out. The only way to close it is to Ctrl+Alt+Del to close the program.

Ill keep an eye on this thread. Theres has to be, at least, a warning for the buyers.

Are you running DoSBox? If not, you should be.

Are you running Windows 8? If you are, you shouldn't be. :)

Everytime I start Wizardry 7, steam shows 2 options

One for Wizardry 7 gold and the other for the Crusaders of the Dark Savant. Wizardry 7 gold doesnt start but opens up a window and needs to be closed with Ctrl+Alt+Del

The other one starts fine.

Mine gets hung up on both options (Gold and Crusaders of the Dark Savant). The window that it gets hung up on says:

Performing first time setup
Installing: xcopy (step 1 of 1)

Just for the record.
Wizardry 7 the dark savant works fine. It is only the gold version that won't start.

Neither option will start on my machine. I listed the error that I received above. I was checking to see if anyone else had had a similar problem and had found a workaround.

I'm think, gladiator these may be 2 different issues. Seems we can start DS version, but not gold; and you can't start either version. I'll DR google your issue and see what i come up with.

I have the same problem as Gladiator66, none of the versions will start.

Yeah, I have the same problems with Wiz Gold. I was so excited to play this game too! Yet I only get, "GlobalFreeptr
problem getting global handle in J_" Insert classic Jim Carrey line, "Suuupppperrrrr Duppperr! (in a very feminine and sarcastic tone)."

Delete the Installation. Install at a new location. I tried this yesterday. I had problems starting Wiz7 gold and Wiz8. I installed both games to a new created steam bibliothek and both games starting now perfectly

Yeah, this worked @hundefreund3 however, now every time I equip an item it crashes. Making progress though. Any other ideas?

I tried this at the beginning of the game. No problems so far.

Okay, I think gold is having problems with 64 bit yes. Wing32.dll was already installed, so that shouldn't be the issue. Hmm, I'll try and troubleshoot it and get back to yall if I manage to find something that works.

Well now, that's quite the smeg. Managed to install Wizardry Gold from the Wizardry Archives disc in a Virtual Box of Windows XP. The Steam version managed to crash and die horribly even with all the install files available to it. I'm guessing it's corruption of the last section that plays before the game menu comes up, after the initial two movies that get skipped with Esc. Remind me to share those, and the Hint Book and Manual windows help files with our intrepid game uploader. They'll need an extra file to run in Windows Vista or later, but it's a quick download from Microsoft.
