Wizardry 7 latest update deletes dos box save states?
I had trouble with using the in-game save options. Instead, I was using the dos box "save state" to keep my saved games. The latest update has changed dos box and I no longer have saved states. Launching from Steam, I choose "Play Wizardry 7: COTDS (MS-DOS) with DOSBox Daum" and there are no longer save states.

Does anyone know how to recover the previous save states? I had put in nearly 200 hours of play time and now I seem to have nothing.

I have found the location of the previous save states here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Wizardry7\dosbox_windows\save

However, I still can't seem to get to them to load them now that dosbox has been updated. How do I go about loading these files?

So... was the update a DOSBOX update then?

tried it just now and the menu bar is there again, save/load state working, so you'll only have to check if your saved states need to be moved to another folder or are OK where they are.

Long story short, I think I can manage to recover the save states if I know where to move them to...but at the moment I don't know where. Any help here?

For the longer story, read on...

I thought it was just a game update, but it turns out something else happened. My desktop shortcut used to open dosbox with a menu available where I could load/save state. Now, the shortcut goes to what looks like a different version of dosbox. I opened steam to see what other options I had available, so now I can select "Play Wizardry 7: COTDS (MS-DOS) with DOSBox Daum". When I do that, the dosbox looks like it had, but none of my save states are available.

The game update had a description on how to recover old save games, but that was if you were using the in-game save options. So basically, I need to know what directory to move my previous dosbox save state to so that this dosbox can load them.

Again, I found the location of my previous dosbox save games here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Wizardry7\dosbox_windows\save

Maybe put the saves in the daum save folder?

......\SteamApps\common\Wizardry7\dosbox_windows\daum\save"... ???

I have not been using the "save state" feature so I can't guide you much more than that location...though I do have a save in there..."1.sav"

Also, I had not been using the shortcut steam created, I am using the dropdown menu from within the Steam application...idk if that helps ya either

200 hours so far is a good start - my little band of wizardry 6 misfits just rolled in to New City...I think I am a little behind where your at in game..

what a huge impact this daum version is to vanilla dosbox...
Saleck+David Walters+steam=success*

*only a minor issue of xcopy never resolving itself...I have been just cancelling the process in task manager...I hope this doesn't screw me down the line.

I moved the save games from...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Wizardry7\dosbox_windows\save
to...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Wizardry7\dosbox_windows\daum\save

The save states are now available to select when I try to load them, but they just freeze dosbox. I was able to save a new state with dosbox and load it just fine, so it's really an issue with this version trying to load states from last version.

I had already been to New City, Nyctalinth, Dionysceus, and Orkogre Castle. I'm still clinging onto hope that someone can help me out. In the meantime, I've started a new party in Wizardry 6.

Thanks for the help and good luck in your adventures.

Hi Ztatge,

A website called "vogons" appears to be the place you might get help with this...

Maybe try to find an earlier version of svn daum wherever the developer's have stored their version history?

idk
