Wizardry 7 Gold - fix for crashing issues

The default Steam Library location of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common" won't work for Wizardry 7 Gold. This path ends up being too long, causing the game to crash:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Wizardry7\wizardry7gold"


To address this problem, setup a second Steam library on another drive with a shorter path (this can be done in the "settings" menu of the Steam client). Example:

"D:\SteamGames"


If you want to keep both libraries on the same drive, copy the new SteamGames folder over to drive C and edit this file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config\libraryfolders.vdf" to change drive letter in new library:

"C:\SteamGames"

Then make the same change to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\libraryfolders.vdf"


Next, move the install folder for "Wizardry 7: Crusaders of the Dark Savant" using the Steam Local files "Move Install folder..." option. That will setup the game at its new location with its shorter filesystem path:

"C:\SteamGames\steamapps\common\Wizardry7\wizardry7gold"

The game will now make it past the intro sequences without crashing.


Another tip for folks running a 1440p monitor with a video card capable of Nvidia integer scaling:

For Windows 11: On "WIZARD.EXE", enable "Run in 640 x480 screen resolution".

For Windows 10: On "WIZARD.EXE", enable compatibility mode for "Windows 98 / Windows Me" and enable "Run in 640 x480 screen resolution".
