After you have the map kit, just make a few notes on the side as to where you found things (I.E. Gorn King is downstairs to the left or something like that, or armor vendor in New City is west of the church). Get used to checking the map (just use it in your inventory when you find it). A few dungeons you will need it to get around without getting lost.
If you don't have the map, I'll say it again..go back and find it. You don't want to map all the forest areas by hand and it makes the dungeons much easier to get around. Also it has an arrow (which is your party) that shows which direction you are facing. That way you don't need the direction spell (better spells to use that spell selection on).
Again thank you very much (ahhh the subtly of this game).

Without tellling details... ... ... With other than Skill Points ... does the Kit activate by itself ... or ... is there a secondary activation? I suspect I know that answer but a 'sign' might be nice as this game is rather vague sometimes. (hint insert player riddle here).

And yes Del, I could not run Gold from steam either. I've heard of work arounds, but not worth the effort to get it running when you can just dosbox it. Very few changes in gold anyway. The map was the main thing that gold had the advantage on, other than that there was some voice acting with some NPCs and supposedly the graphics slightly better (I never noticed much difference personally).
I am about the leave New City ... And I have still not figured out how to acess or intergrate the Journey Map Kit. Is this a case where the lead character can only use the prop? The character who has the Kit has a 17 in mapping. Is there also a scribing requirement as well??

Ths scribe skill is for using scrolls and spells books. The higher scribe, the more likely you won't fumble the scroll when you use it and you will be able to scribe higher level spells from spell books into your character's spell book. I have never used either scrolls or books very much, so never upped scribe till i got the other stuff high.
