Character Editor Mad Gods Tiny Hut has been taken down
Took me several hours, but I finally found this editor on a Russian site. It scanned clean, So I DL'd to a quarntined drive and tested it again. Came up clean. So I tried it out, and while it is somewhat simple in what it does, it DOES work to edit character stats, skills, and equipment; on my Win11 desktop. (I assume it is a Russian site, since the ads and labels are Russian or Slavic at any rate)

Formula for Carry Capacity from what I have found, since the game apparently doesnt update that with level ups is:

9*Str + 4.5*Vit (setting both to 18, yields a carry capacity of 162 + 81 = 243)

Found a link in the "This game is 400 yrs old" thread, that works for Mad Gods Cosmic Forge Unicode editor.

the instructions here for the automap utility, worked for me today (9/20/23) on my Win11 install so, should be good for awhile yet i'd expect:

Wow. That's incredibly tragic his site is gone. He is a true legend and his tool allowed me to make mods all those years ago.

I hadnt played any of the Wiz series in years, maybe 2 laptops ago lol, then watched a YT video from Danae, doing a Wiz 8 Lets Play. Sort of got the itch, to start a VI party, and work them through to and into 8. Spent the better part of the day, looking for char editor for wiz 6, cause the character creation process is an absolute friggin nightmare, by modern standards. MUCH easier, to just take what rolls the game gives you for your 6, then use the editor to "fix it".

I never could find a way to edit the characters themselves, just the environment, loot, etc haha.

I do have a working cosmic forge editor myself, so I'm glad I backed it up, just in case.

The 1st link I posted in the OP, DOES edit the characters. MGs CF does not. SO having both is a good thing!

Just point it at yoiur install directory:

You can find these on the Internet Archive[web.archive.org] website as well, though the Google Drive links seem to be busted and you'll need to visit them directly to get the files for some of the stuff on there.

According to the last update post (Oct 2023) on his forums (https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/cosmicforge/cf-updates-t40-s40.html), his new website seems to be: https://spershin.wixsite.com/mad-god-tiny-hut

First of all, thank you all for making this information available. However, I'm having trouble getting BaneEdit to work for me.

I am probably doing something fundamentally wrong (word is I'm not terribly bright). I'll start by saying I did extract the download into bane folder as per the previous post.

Not knowing what else to do, I opened BaneEdit.

I got a dialogue box with the option to open, save or exit.

I chose open.

I then get a message that says:
The file does not appear to be a valid Bane of the Cosmic Forge Savegame file

Followed by :
Editing a character's items requires a valid Scenario.dbs file. "C:/Bane/Scenario.dbs does not appear to exist. Would you be so kind as to direct my to your Scenario.dbs file

Since it asked so politely, I felt I couldn't refuse and gave it the proper path to the file.

When I click open the whole thing starts all over again.

I really just want the character stat editor so I don't have to spend eternity rolling up characters.

Any help anyone can provide would be appreciated. Oh and I am running windows 11 on a machine less than a year old in case that helps. Thanks in advance.
Hopefully someone comes along can help you with this. It's been so long now, I don';t recall how I got around that, though I seem to have an itch in the back of my brain that says that sounds familiar as hell.
@jianders: I don't know the answer to your question, but I asked ChatGPT for you. Here is its response:

Originally posted by ChatGPT:
The issue you're encountering with BaneEdit, a tool designed for editing savegame files for "Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge," seems to stem from a couple of potential misunderstandings or misconfigurations regarding the tool's requirements and how it interacts with the game files. Here are some steps and checks to help resolve the problem:

Verify Game Save File: Ensure that the file you are trying to open with BaneEdit is indeed a valid savegame file for "Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge." These files typically have specific extensions and are located in the game's save directory. If you're unsure which file to use, look for files within the game directory that were modified around the time you last saved your game progress.

Correct Scenario.dbs File: The error message regarding the "Scenario.dbs" file suggests that BaneEdit either cannot find this file or does not recognize the one you have as valid. The "Scenario.dbs" file is crucial for BaneEdit as it contains game data necessary for editing character stats and items. Make sure this file is from the same version of "Wizardry 6" that you're playing. Compatibility issues might arise from mismatched game and editor versions.

Path Specification: When you provide the path to the "Scenario.dbs" file, ensure it's the correct and full path. Given you're on Windows 11, path issues could be related to permissions or incorrect directory specification. Double-check the path you're entering to make sure it's accurate.

Run as Administrator: Since you're on Windows 11 and the tool might not be explicitly compatible with newer versions of Windows, try running BaneEdit as an administrator. Right-click the BaneEdit executable and select "Run as administrator" from the context menu. This can sometimes resolve issues related to file access permissions.

Compatibility Mode: If running as an administrator doesn't solve the issue, try setting the compatibility mode for the BaneEdit executable. Right-click it, go to Properties, then to the Compatibility tab. From there, you can select to run the program in compatibility mode for an earlier version of Windows, such as Windows 7 or XP. This might help if the tool was designed for older versions of Windows.

Check Documentation: Ensure that you've read through any documentation or readme files that came with BaneEdit. There might be specific instructions or requirements you've missed.

Community Forums and Support: If the issue persists, consider seeking help on forums or communities dedicated to "Wizardry 6" or retro gaming. There might be known issues with BaneEdit on modern systems that other users have encountered and resolved.

Given the nature of third-party game editing tools, especially for older games, compatibility issues with newer operating systems can be common. It's also possible that the version of BaneEdit you're using has specific requirements or limitations not immediately apparent.

Thanks for the help, folks. I was, ultimately, able to get mad god's editor going by using a folder "unprotected" by windows. All's well that ends well and I got my characters rolled up very quickly. I really appreciate all the effort you did on my behalf, Skjarl.
