Class change sweetspot
So I have a lvl 6 Faerie Mage that I could change to Valkyrie, and I'm finishing the Hazard Zone in the castle. My plan is to let her a long time into Valkyrie class so she can master both magic schools.
My dilemna: if I change her now the miss chance will improve, but I don't have any gear for her, like a good spear etc...

When in terms of level and location would you recommend the change?

Change her after you get the big endgame spells like nuclear blast. It'll give you a chance to increase her spellpoints and make her even more versatile. Then once you change, she will be a good fighter and have some of the best offensive spells in the game

I would not be able to get new spells once she is a Valkyrie ?? I thought the benefit of class change was to never lose skills, then if I can still increase my magic skills I would get new spells right ?

You won't get mage spells anymore once she changes, but you will be able to get priest spells.

I may be an outlier, but I class change all of my party members all the time. I switch them back and forth when they get to about Level 7 or 8. Essentially when the XP required to get to the next level is significant and if I switch them to something else, they will jump multiple levels from one combat. Since your character returns to a Level 1 character, but with all the HP and skills retained, you gain levels crazy fast. Each time increasing spell points if you are a caster.

I don't switch everyone at the same time, but rather I rotate them. Switching class often lets all your party members increase a wide variety of skills and they all become quite versatile.

And, if you pick a class when you switch with the stats necessary to switch to a number of other classes, you usually won't get stuck in a class for very long. And you can just swap equipment from characters to characters as you change them.

However, I will also say that I am an unabashed grinder. I will sit and grind levels for hours because I enjoy building the party members' stats.

I can honestly say that all my party members cycle among all the different classes and gain all the possible skills. But I also take my time and grind, grind, grind.

For me, this is a massive exploit in Wizardry 6. I can't remember if Wizardry 7 works the same way, but I know that this was fixed in Wizardry 8.

Probably not for everyone, but I love changing classes in Wizardry 6.

Level 7 is a good 'sweet spot' for class changes. You can easily hit this in the castle, especially if you are willing to 'grind' on the bats in the bell tower. For casters, pay attention to how many skill points per level up you get. You get 1d6+4 skill points per level. If you are unlucky and get 5 or 6 points every time, you aren't going to have your thamaturgy (mage), theology (priest), theosophy (psionic) or alchemy (alchemist) stat high enough to unlock higher level spells, and will thus need to "stay in that class" longer. Level 2 spells -18 points, 3-36, 4-54, 5-72, 6-90, 7-98 points. With your first class, you get 1d9+9 skill points "free at start", which makes your first class magic class considerably easier, but you won't get this after switching classes to your 2nd one, making it more difficult to unlock the higher level spells quickly.

yes, it does indeed. Right after finishing the starter dungeon, i go to get the black card in the back of New Town and continuously trigger savant spawns at the guard station. (usually after buying a few Mystic Spears from the released prisoner with the money i get selling the amulet of life from Ra's chest). This is how i used to build up my parties for import to 8.

It does not work in 8--your XP doesn't drop when you change.
