After starting the first level Dreampools, I can't see anything but am able to control my character. Could someone else figure it out?

me too
I have encountered this problem in two other Poolrooms type games like LIMINALCORE and LIMINAL SHIFT (both use UE5). From what i understand this has something to do with UE5 and PC's that use APU's with integrated graphics (pretty much all gaming laptops, NUC box PC's, ASUS ROG ALLY gaming handheld and even the STEAM DECK). Though, games like BACKROOMS: LOST TAPE; also use UE5 however do not have this same issue. so it Would appear that this issue is possible to resolve within UE5. So the reality is, anyone of the many many people using the above devices is cut out from playing it (at least the poolrooms level so far, which is the best feature of the game). And in turn the DEV is relieving themselves of the money of that large slice of buyers. So i believe it would be in the financial interest of the DEV to make the game more accessible to all users in this way. So anyone reading who this has this issue make sure you say "me too" here. Its up to the DEV to decide how much money they want (or claim they want XD).

Sorry but I need to point out that POOLS uses Unity Engine, which is compatible with my laptop.
Acknowledged and removed as an example. Point remains true for LOST TAPE though. (And that would make sense unity works with the laptop because the APU problem is with UE5 as stated)

What are your PC specs? Your GPU is important. If it is unable to run UE5 games, then the lightning won't load at all. This is unfixable, only a new GPU will help.

I think it's probably fixable from the DEVS end (if they give a hoot XD). I have encountered this problem with other games like Liminalcore that also uses UE5. I have a PC that uses an APU with integrated graphics. And many here would claim that cuts you out. However Backrooms: LOST TAPE also uses UE5, but works just fine even on my supposedly insufficient APU. This would suggest that it could be fixed on the DEVS end. I see many people mentioning this issue. And the solution dosnt have to be to drop a few hundred more dollars to play a 10 dollar game.

That's not the problem of UE5 itself, you see. The game uses real-time lightning system in Dreampools level. That's why Eternal Suburbia may still work for you, but with incorrect dynamic lightning. Dreampools uses UE5's Lumen lightning, and this is unfixable. Only if dev will decide to add a prebaked light or a different lightning system, which will probably look atrocious with given environments - this is one of the solutions, still.

So yeah, I agree with you. By the way, this is often a glitch, that happens on new RTX GPUs, like RTX3090 - some people report having similar issue even on compatible devices. So yeah, it definitely needs to be fixed

My point exactly. Use a different lighting system. So clearly it's possible and not unfixable. A question of effort perhaps?Though I don't think it would look atrocious. Looks fine in Backrooms: LOST TAPE. And like you said just like me "it's up to the DEV" but it would sureeeeeee get more people buying and playing the game they clearly want to sell.

The problem is that Valentine (dev) is kinda 'unclear', if you can say so? I was messaging him in order to know the song from the oldest demo version. It recently got replaced, soon after the release. I was told to FORGET IT. The song kinda sounds like something by Caretaker, but all efforts to find it were in vain. Community does not know the answer either. Valentine also refuses to answer to other technical questions, similar to the problem of lightning system and so on.

He refuses to add in-depth settings into the game and insists on VHS mode, and the sound of the tape. People were asking him to remove it, but he says that it will never happen. Something makes me believe that he won't bother to use a different lightning system (yet, it is used in Eternal Suburbia). We're not the first people to ask for a solution, but we either get ignored or asked to change our PCs. That's why I told you that it was 'unfixable' from the very beginning

This is exactly the answer i wanted to get from my comments. because it drags out into the open the hypocrisy of DEV for wanting comments and suggestions for improvement of the game from the recent update. With a clearly large issue (like the lighting system problems discussed above that affects many systems clearly) i have been trying to bring to the forefront as a critical issue that clearly affects the sales of the game and the growth. Which should be the interest of the DEV if your going to sell the game (otherwise just make it free if you wanna be NO COMPROMISE DEVELOPMENT and money ain't your goal). But clearly from what you have stated, the asks for suggestions of improvement are hollow and has a "ask me to improve anything.....except these things lol" mentality of development. Its really a shame because i really am a huge fan of the Dreampools level. I have seen a few vids on it of course, and its one of the best and most vast examples out there. Just would be great to play it without dropping another 300$ just to satisfy a single setting of UE5.

We understand that some players are experiencing issues due to the game's reliance on real-time ray tracing. However, the lighting system in Dreampools was chosen for artistic reasons, and unfortunately, it is not feasible to achieve the same visual fidelity using alternative methods. While Eternal Suburbia does use ray tracing in combination with ambient lighting, that approach does not translate well to Dreampools, which heavily relies on UE5’s Lumen for its atmosphere and dynamic reflections.

We set the minimum specs based on what is required to deliver the intended experience, and while we truly regret that not everyone can run the game, the vast majority of Steam users meet these requirements. This is supported by the Steam Hardware Survey, which shows that most players have compatible hardware.

We appreciate the feedback and understand the frustration, but changing the lighting system would compromise the game's artistic vision and require significant reworking. Thank you for your understanding.

I am also experiencing this issue for the dreampools level, it is just a black screen for me. I emailed the dev team and they said it maybe due to my GPU not supporting Ray tracing (I game on the rog ally console) and am not at all familiar with anything technical like this. this issue doesn't seem to be something I can fix myself based on the comments within this thread sadly. It's Disappointing as the other game Pools worked perfectly for me on this console.
But im really enjoying the suburbia level so far though! And do hope the other levels will be playable for me when they are available.
