They have confirmed that there are two endings.
There's a bad ending and it's the only one I've gotten so far, I couldn't escape through the elevator like you. I'll write what I did (or think I did) and you decide if you want to read it or not:
Basically all I did was run into the entity twice and "scare" it by getting close to it. The first time was in that long corridor with the water in the middle he always appears in the first time, the second time was in a corridor just before the area with blue wallpaper with clouds, I see it through an opening in a staircase below , but when I went down there it had already disappeared, after that event I entered the door with the exclamation and downstairs I found the same entity for the third time, it killed me and I got the bad ending.
Hard to say either way I suppose.
I really just want to know clearly what the conditions are for the good and bad endings
It has been patched, I believe. It was a glitch.
You need to find a flashlight and go back to the spawn area that has a door that leads into a dark room going downstairs. Presuming you don't trigger the monster to kill you for the bad ending (I don't know what causes the bad ending) you should be able to walk to an open, functional elevator and finish the demo.
This ball scared me so much though, what a nice and subtle scare, eheh
That was my thought as to what triggers it, but I wasn't quite sure. I'll take this as the official answer on how to get the bad ending, since it seems to make the most sense.
