AI Voiceover is unacceptable
I am extremely disappointing to see that the devs made the decision to use AI voices in all of their voiced areas and not hire actual voice talent. Even if its a demo, it should not be released in a state without proper VO work. Probably would have supported the game on release if that was the case, and spent a lot of money too. Uninstalled right after we got the 2nd tutorial with the obvious AI.

Shame too, because I really enjoyed the first beta test.

Please support voice talent while we still have something left.

It would be infinitely better to have no voices instead of this AI slop. It's an affront to the human soul.

I disagree with you.

I don't understand this Luddite talking point of never wanting AI anything. I don't mind it as long as it's of similar quality. The issue is that the voices are pretty bad and the tech simply isn't there yet. It'll be a great tool for smaller companies once it releases because they'll be able to implement infinite voicelines without having it eat away at their budget. As much as I respect good voice actors, I've already dealt with them either asking too much or going on strike randomly which disrupts the games they work on. They're not doing themselves any favors in the long run by doing this stuff.

Like it or not, AI is inevitable. The best way to not get replaced is to be skilled in whatever you do. Mediocre artists, actors, etc will be replaced because there won't be a point to hire them anymore, but there's no replacement for skilled artists because their unique styles simlpy can't be replicated by AI. They've tried, but it's easy to spot the slop given enough samples.

Except the AI voices are placeholders and they will have actual voices in the full release, they have said this.
If they are still actively paying/recording voices there is literally nothing wrong with using AI voices as placeholders, the demo is free
Why do you need an AI placeholder at all? Just use an actual voice actor.
because its not a final product

If that was the case, the world wouldn't be filled with so much theft, death and destruction. Spare me with that -ish. Humanity, as a whole, does NOT care about "human soul." Humanity only cares about getting what they feel is owed to them. This is reality.

AI is here to stay. This isn't like NFTs that have only every made sense in theory, blockchain which is needlessly complicated, or Crypto which is filled with rugpulls and scams. AI is actually useful and is being used by every major corporation out there. Google uses AI. Amazon uses AI, Steam allows games made with AI on their platform as long as they're fully disclosed to the user. Do you really think it's going to stop there?

You can try to escape it, but you will be hard pressed to find a product that won't be made using some form of AI in the next few years.

The fact that it's AI is irrelevant, I'd hope that saves them enough resources to use in another area of the game to make it even more interesting.

But the fact that the voices have "bad acting" really is important, these don't sound good.

Honestly seeing the debacle they had in snowbreak where some VA literally refused to do their damn job because of the fan service, i can only understand their reason to choose ai over human.
These are some really terrible arguments for AI support here. It really doesn't hold any weight to the points about how awful AI voices are and I sincerely doubt that it's not "the finished product" just because how development works. They'll use AI to fix a handful of lines and our character randomly speaking in the default voice rather than our chosen one (and perhaps other characters speaking in the wrong voice) but otherwise that's going to be it.

AI voices are ultra lazy. There isn't going to be "money saved for other parts of the game", they're just going to spend less money on even poorer quality output than human VAs.

People are kidding themselves here citing and anecdotes where AI voices would be even more trash.

AI is here to stay as a mark of bad quality product.

AI voices can be used for a lot of things that human actors will simply not be able to do or it will be too expensive to do it. For example, you can have the AI read the voice of the player's username. Blue Archive does this with one of their characters, Arona. She's an AI program and she speaks via AI voice. If incorporated into your game correctly, you can personalize and create infinite unique voice lines in a way you can't with human actors.

Does this mean human actors will be gone? No, but mediocre ones are. People of average skill will likely be replaced by AI which is a large chunk of people. The issue in the future is going to be what to do with people who are simply naturally mid. As for video games, AI will likely be able to do a lot of the work while skilled people are going to be going over the work and adding their own touches. Animation itself already relies on algorithmic data to generate in-between frames which saves heavily on cost and labor. The search engines you use don't rely on a human to connect you to the right information, it's an algorithm.

As the technology improves, people will stop caring. Why? Because at the end of the day they simply want good games. 343 could sacrifice an entire village of African children to produce another good Halo and as long as it's stellar I legitimately think most people would still play anyways. Why? Because many of the products we use on a day to day basis rely on slavery and horrible working conditions to create it. Especially the computer and phone you're using. Voice actors' best option is to become irreplaceable or start looking into things that can't be automated.

Yeah, I have no worries for the JPN voice actors, they take voice acting very serious and they have many strict prestigious voice acting schools (Around 130 schools across Japan), they have a college specifically meant for voice acting called Tokyo College of Anime (DEOW Japan). No Voice AI will be able to compete with them. The only people that are worried and should be worried are the terrible voice actors in the ENG side and most of them are the ones that do them half assed in anime and any eastern games as well as put their politics before performance.

I'll take AI over obnoxious politically opinionated voice actors any day.
Better than the crappy job most English voice actors currently do anyway
I think the player numbers show that the AI voices are actually perfectly acceptable actually

Why do you need an AI placeholder at all? Just use an actual voice actor.

Because the point of a placeholder is to hold onto something temporarily until the finished product is released which can either be an improved AI voice or until they find the right voice actor to read the lines given to them.

Also the game even says "This is not the Final Voice Product" showing that they're nowhere close to finishing the game. Also why should it matter if they use an AI voice or not? When you were complaining about AI voices of real people that I understood but robotic AI voices in general and you still have an issue?

Text-To-Speech is a form of AI yet nobody gives that any issue seeing how there's plenty of vtubers who use it themselves so how come they get a pass yet a game that uses a similar function doesn't get a pass?
