4:3 support
Please add the option to run the entire game in 4:3 for the small (but dedicated) amount of people who have 4:3 CRT monitors. It such a shame because the game is already designed for 4:3 aspect ratio but because this remake assumes that you are using a wide screen monitor, it doesn't have the option to turn it back to 4:3 (Unless I've missed something)

Usually remakes assume that it is for wide-screen ratio. I am wondering if there are modern games that support it.

This was something I suggested in another thread I made here but sadly Live Wire dropped the ball and left this game with locked 720p internal resolution and no resolution options whatsoever in this PC port. I wish they could give this version proper resolution options on PC since this setup does not work well with a CRT. I would know because on the Xbox 360 version I played this on a CRT before I could upgrade to a widescreen HDTV and the screen could not be properly scaled to a 4:3 resolution (despite the Xbox 360 itself being capable of supporting 4:3 signals and even some games also support 4:3) along with letterboxing that made the game harder to see the bullets moreso than bloom and new transparency effects because of the reduced screen size.

Is 720p an issue considering that the game has low poly models?

It's an entitled PC Master Race issue. Xbox 360 is capable of 1080p. Switch is capable of 1080p. Seemingly no one cared until the PC port came along and PC-only players who expected nothing but top-of-the-line inexplicably expected 4K resolution while no one said it was coming.

Although it would've been better since higher res monitors could show bluriness with low res games but asking for all games to be 4K and Ultra Wide Screen compatible or else they wouldn't play it is exagerrated.

Same with achievements.

The phrase 'locked at 720p' is like half this forum.

Another vote for a native 4:3 option, please.

Thank you!

it'd be a great option for sure. or at least a scaling option to stretch fullscreen up to edges, and screen would get squashed to 4:3 by the display itself.
polynektar Nov 17, 2023 @ 9:09am
Thinking about this more, maybe the existing "Classic" scaling option does what u need. Then increase size to around 110%. It'd get squished to 4:3 just like saturn version. Try it.

Sadly not. That is pretty much how I've been playing it on my 16:9 monitor - with the size increased to 107%, because any more than that it starts cropping the top and bottom.

On the 4:3 monitor the settings just take place within a 16:9 letterbox.

ah, monitor, that's the difference. A TV CRT would just stretch it to fill screen....just like old times.

Speaking of monitors are vertical ones hard to find?
polynektar Nov 17, 2023 @ 10:04am
no, there are lots that are able rotate. Grate for tate games.

It does not sadly. I have the Xbox 360 version and played it on a CRT TV many years ago and it does not stretch the image to fill in the 4:3 space, instead it gets letterboxed since the game screen locked to 16:9 so it creates letterboxing and uneven scaling, even if you try to raise the game's Zoom function it is still confined to the 16:9 viewport. This was coming from a time I used the Xbox 360's own RCA cables with whatever 4:3 resolutions my console can output on the CRT TV I had many years back.
