I can type in all caps too, lol. But seriously, why map to the arrow keys? If using a controller, you wouldn't move the ship with ABXY.
Since it should be an easy addition, I see no reason for not having this option here.
Arrow keys are a Standard because you need your skillfull hand to do precise dodging since shooting is quite simple.
Just see any other game like Touhou for example. Even Ikaruga has this setup.
Can't speak for Touhou, but Ikaruga's default (at least on console) isn't to move with the right side of the controller. I understand what you guys are saying, it just goes completely against what a controller scheme is by default, even with a lot of shmups. That's why it seems so weird to me.
Where not all keyboards have arrow keys. Like on many laptops for example, which often have the arrow inputs under function layers.
Personally I map xinput(xbox) buttons to my keyboard, which results in universal inputs across most games. IE map the xinput dpad to the arrow keys.

Its the built-in software which comes with the keyboard I use.
For reference its a Wooting HE60 keyboard.
If you want 3rd party option I think reWASD can also do the same thing + more, but its not free to use outside of its trial period.

I think you can be very fast with both, but people tend to dismiss keyboard input because they're not used to it.
But WASD/ZQSD is the standard mapping for PC games involving movements using the keyboard.
I still prefer my shooters with a pad.
PS: but the most perfect way to play a shooter (and fighting game/BtA) is an arcade stick.
bruh how old are we talkin? I'm almost 40 I never used the arrow keys. Do we have some 50-60 year olds in this mf? lol
