No scan line filters? No buy.
I played the Live Wire switch version and the video options are either smoothed out modernized "high res" sprites that look like garbage, or the real game sprites but without scanlines so it looks like ♥♥♥♥ on a modern TV. Live Wire, please add scanlines to the PC version. Also HDR to lighten up the darkened image from the scan lines without losing color would be nice.

Anybody else feel strongly about image quality? The game was made to be played on CRTs and the scanline fiters help the game look how it's supposed to.

I doubt they'll add a scanline feature, but ReShade can add pretty convincing scanlines and other CRT effects to just about any PC game. It's currently making my playthrough of the "Master Collection" of MGS1 slightly more tolerable. XD

I plan on checking it out with this port of RS, and I hope the additional post-processing doesn't add any input delay, because that would suck.

As someone who have the Xbox 360 version and for a time played it on a CRT TV before upgrading to an HD one, I thought the graphics, both new and old apart from the LOW RES 2 (the original graphics with a bilinear filter applied) are fine to me and appreciate the look of both styles yet even that version didn't have scanlines so I doubt this port will have that option unless Live Wire implements it in a post-launch update if there's enough demand for it. The major problem though with the HD ports since the Xbox 360 version is that they are anamorphic 16:9, meaning that even if you played those versions on a CRT TV like I did many years ago, it would be difficult to get a properly scaled 4:3 image using RCA cables with that version and had to deal with unused space on the top and bottom portions of the screen from the letterboxing from what I can remember.

I tend to agree the graphics don't look great on an HD screen and although the lo-res settings look fine when playing Switch handheld, that's not an option for most PC players. There definitely should be something else in the filter options.

I'll say this though, despite the plastic-y look of the HD 2D textures, the visual clarity the hi-res settings offer is nice and it still looks better on a large screen than the OG textures, imo.

This game also aged pretty well (same with MGS) so it still looks decent today.

I agree, although to me it doesn't seem as plasticy looking on my end, but I'm also basing this on how the Xbox 360 version is being upscaled to my 4K TV. I'm sure it'll look much better at native 1080p or higher if the PC version supports higher native resolutions the console versions.
