Is it just me?
First off I'd like to say this is not a troll post, or a post about me badmouthing anyone or thing. I've been playing spellforce since it was first released, like ever. I love the series... its probably one of if not my favorite RTS series and I own every RTS since Dune II. That said does anyone else who has followed this series from the order of dawn think that after dragon storm... things kinda seem to be weird story wise and just well.... not as good? I can't really put my finger on it... but i was not impressed with faith in destiny or demons of the past so far. I'd like to know peoples thoughts who have played since the very first one :) thanks!

I agree, Faith in Destiny was kind of meh. But dunno, I kind of liked Demons of the Past so far. Can't say it's as great as Dragon Storm (my favorite part out of Spellforce 2), but pretty good. It certainly does explain a few things.

It does have some bugs, which are supposedly getting fixed, and a few problems here and there, but considering how fast FiD got fixed, I doubt the bugs will be around for long.

But, story-wise, Order of the Dawn and Shadow of the Phoenix.and Dragon Storm, are still my favorite. :)
I mean bang for buck spellforce is still worth it... I payed top collector editio dollar for rome 2 and i started playing it AFTER they fixed all the bugs and it still can't hold my interest for some reason tbh. Maybe its just because the original was such a cult classic like Majesty was or maybe its because spellforce 2 was so good. Story wise it was perfect getting to see the shadow warrior and the "Mesenger" ( the guy you play as who saves the world a bajillion times) and honestly my favorite thing about spellforce 2 was The Westguard part of the game... forgeing a crappy under seige fief into a nation all its own, helping it grow and prosper.... that was so bad ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ass. The man who came up with that needs to win the lotto or something, Bravo.

No need to mince words the story is plain crap. nameless thread? ....(see rpg clichce) I played all spellforce 2 and tryed to play spellforce one(coudnt without dieing of boredom) And shadow wars had a great story, dragon storm had a great story. why?
Because the enemy wasnt evil for the lolz of it. they where people with different goals and ideals, then ther was malacay, the soulcarrier and the shapers. Faith in desitiny and demons of the past both make the same mistake. Big threat to the world.
For a gamer like myself: that is a boring overdone concept.
Seen it, done it, killed it, a thousend times over.

Yeah. Well, I kind of liked the Westguard idea originally, too. Although I'd figure it'd probably expand a little by now. However, I finished Spellforce 1 a few times, while Spellforce 2, despite being okay, I played only once through each of the campaigns. Didn't keep my attention after that.

I do still like DotP story-wise, though. Seemed like an improvement from FiD.

It's a new threat, but Demons of the Past did seem to explain things so far - their motivations for what they do, and perhaps even some of the goals.
malaficus... if you can get the first one to grow on you id suggest to try and play it... its really like reading a good book. Its just that good imo

It is still not a battle among equals.

Yea the first spellforce was alittle slow starting out, But it had to be because there are SOO many options char skill wise and alot of things to sink your teeth into that were knew or i hadnt played any game like it and it took me abit to get the right balance of skills.

I restarted SP1 on my first play thru about 6 times because id convince myself i was gimp because i coudnt kill that mob ect, when the actual truth was ANY combo you could dream up was workable and fun to play.

Since its a very old game, I played it mainly out of nostalgic reasons.
Faith in Destiny wasn't so convincing to me considering depth of immersion, length and such, where I see a clear development in Demons from the Past.
On the other Hand, the FiD had the RTS-Part a lot better implemented than the later, where you lead armies a bit too rarely for my taste and in rather uninteresting scenarios, considering that RPG/RTS-Merge is the main concept of the game. (for the record, Im in the Ice wastes so far, so I don't know if some good fights will still come.)
That was done a LOT better in Spellforce 2 and other earlier games.

last but not least, I want to add, that I was never a die-hard fan of the series, but always enjoyed it as decent. Not especialy awesome, but also not entirely bad. A nice series to gap creative blocks in the development of hit titles with, and especialy DotP is enough fun in that regard. :D

Sometimes the story arcs seem a bit bogus, predictable and repetitive.. but on the other hand I like how the developers played with that in some conversations. (I loved those parts where the characters joked about having to find someone to get quests, or the interaction speaker<->avatar in the godly trials. :D )
Also, you can never have enough mind-boggling story arcs about time travel, gods and magic now.. can you?
