All of these posts with no info - How is the pc port
I am seeing a lot of speculation of how the game was and is compared to other games but how is the pc port? Is the game a playable game and ported well?

bought it and played it a little bit, seems like its pretty much untouched from its original release, there is no resolution support past 800x600 and im getting fairly low FPS though it seems like the fps limit is capped around 15-20 frames. im sure there will be fixes for the resolution and fps in the near future. ive never played this game when it came out years ago but its reminding me a bit like tomb raider with platforming and puzzles.

i only played a bit on the first map and man the controls isnt exactly good for such a game it really needs a controller to play it like it is supposed to

The resolution can be set as high as 2560x1600 if you run nglide_config.exe from the install directory. Unfortunately the menus are locked at 640x480 but in-game your resolution will be whatever you set it to. I have not had any FPS issues and run the game at 60 just fine.

This isn't a port, this is the original, on PC, the playstation one was the port, albeit there are quite a few differences between the two, textures being the obvious one, as well as characters showing damage on their bodies as they get torn up (psx version doesn't do this).

The framerate problem you face may actually be related to it being so old, it's running dx7 afterall, and while they seem to have done work to get it to work on modern OS, it doesn't mean there won't be problems. Sacrifice on GoG is the same way, fixed to work on modern OS, but dx7 gives a lot of framerate and graphical problems on some systems.

Just toy around with the settings, really, it's all I can recommend you try.

EDIT: Ah, nevermind, Playstation version came out first, still, the two versions are noticebly different in quite a few aspects, making me doubt it's really a port.

PC port seems to have stuff that wasn't in the PS1 version. You'll notice that right away. (Intro level is twice as long and has monsters, Multiplayer mode, etc etc.) Controls are barf, but once you get JoytoKey going and get a gamepad configured, the odd keyboard placement of controls becomes a non-issue.

Just an FYI, this game is hardcoded to run at 17fps.

For the time being this is original version, not port. PC version was developed first with more content and exclusive features, but released AFTER PS1 port, so people easily mistake things on this because PS1 port was released first and original PC game later. The controls aren't hard if you got used to TR gameplay.
