You should be able to start a local multiplayer game and he can connect if he's on the same local area network.
Maybe try setting sv_lan to 0 (and possibly restarting the map) in a local server then connect by IP address?
the bots tend to do pretty well, and the gameplays pretty fun.
so id say very much worth it.
but also checkout the ship, old ver and newly released remastered ver <3
same creator.
The remasterd is not the same company but yes, The ship and BGT is the same creator but sadly they got shutted down :C
nobody play this
crying
as there are many who would join up, or just gather a few via the forums and add them lol.
honestly people still play but unless you know them, or the time there gonna hop on it can be tricky to run into them.
You gotta contact and ask me to start the server for you because mine isnt open 24/7
