What happened?
Stopped playing for awhile, but I'm looking for actual real answers. The numerous other posts asking this, are the usual low IQ troll responses. "They went back to Dark and Darker" "Game is bad" etc.. People don't just dump a game they liked cuz no reason.

What happened in the past several months? People are mentioning a few patches in the reviews, but not explaining what, or whats changed to make the game go from a steady 30k players to sub 1k.

The only thing I can say for certain is match making is horrendous, but that can't be the only reason, since Dark and Darker had horrendously lopsided MM for 2 years, (and still is struggling with that to a degree)

Most reason was the matchmaking changes i think. mobs are too strong now. you cant progress there is not enough lot to find to progress in the game. going from casual to classic mode. for my taste the game is better then DaD melee system is better in DB but thats my opinion. oh and for to long there was the Life on Hit thing with the DK Class took very long to fix it. ah i forget the most annoying thing they added a Hard Mode with best Loot you can get but you play vs Teams soo you have no chance.. wish you a good day Sir! Or Girl?^^

Exactly what zatef said, just now I tried to see if I could get into a game, sat in que for 15 minutes waiting for a match to be found and gave up. They had a good thing initially and they ruined it. Its a dead game, on to the next one.

From release until current in order unless I'm mistaken.

Some bad blood was just salty super fans right out the gate and to be fair it went both ways for and against DB.

Life on hit made people mad and they didn't feel that it was fixed quickly enough

***People discovered how to use set bonuses*** Cryo became a god but that didn't hurt the game at this point

They released Clothos in the midst of LoH and made it so you could RMT yourself into Clothos and RMT yourself gold and items. While you could try to Clothos solo, it was a chore to even try to get past 4 wins and when you did you were thrown to teams that would full stomp you. The rich got richer and the poor's stayed poor.

LoH was finally taken care of but the people found out that LoH wasn't the only thing to make the Cryos broken it was Faery of the Lake and the hit scan q the whole time. Took them a good while to fix the Cryo.

***While the LoH was around folks avoided high tier games to avoid it. When people started running FoL Cryo, the same thing happened in a larger way that it made all the sweats start farming timmie's***

After the Cryo nerf People further discovered how strong set bonuses are with the SM,Rogue, and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Priest. Punishing anyone not running full set bonuses in classic. So folks went to find game's in casual again and killed timmie's.

They released an Adventure tier sytem that at high tiers can only be done through PvP. So where do you think the sweats went to get free kills? Yep and casual become a full on sweat filled spawn rush farm fest.

***Casuals stopped playing and wanted better Match Making***

And then we got the most recent update to try and even things out so they could get folks back into it by giving us a MM update and a few other thing's that folks had asked for except...............................

Removed solo's from hard mode. They went and reduced gear drop rate's and increased treasure drop's ruining the economy for anyone playing casually. Increased mob health. Added a Max gear score limit to lobbies that people had WANTED but also threw in a minimum gear score limit as well that NO single person wanted.

To finish this all off they said they would communicate more but the last thing we heard was "Season 1 patch is getting worked on" over a month ago.

Hope this helps and I'm sure I missed some bit's.

This was a perfect summary thank you :) exactly what I was looking for.

oh and dont forget that they removed half the server jsut when the second week of clothos trial was up. i was having fun but with my server gone i was just not able to play anymore, thats probably why it decreased so much
Elikir Nov 7, 2024 @ 2:57pm
Don't forget they also made some changes to basically counter/kill any rat attemps from casuals who wanted an easier way to farm some decent gear as casual was overrun by sweat and/or PvP addicts who constantly stomped/bully poor new and casuals player

Such changes was basically over nerf rogues, make red circle deadlier "against squishy classes" (which let druid become the better rat rogue), also made classic mode requiring GS of 15 instead of 8, that was before the fully MM rework

i also remember some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about the legendaries, before, it was time locked, meaning once a specific legendary drop, wait 32 or 48 REAL HOURS before you could get another one, it was per server i think

Which obviously lead to a group of people creating a group/server on discord and basically told each other if they got a legendary and when, and so could basically control the drop of such rarity, and created a monopoly

TL:DR Reason as to why people quit dungeonborne is because not only the company took way too much times fixing ♥♥♥♥, but they also fixed what wasn't broken, "they have a vision for their game" and sadly their vision doesn't seem take into account players opinions

Just streamers and sweatlords playing 24/7.Buying legos and uniques for 100m like unique mace(which kills 80% of your enemys with 1 hit,and others with 2 hits) and then just farm whole lobbys again and again without giving other players even a chance to kill them.and even if they do,they won't get his lego because its locked by mithril dice.
And now imagine average player playing many hours to get money for some regular purple gear.He enters classic mode and then get destroyed with 1 hit by sweatlord without any chance.

I wish I could make your answer go up with the answered pin too. Thank you for explaining even more!

This is also part of what I was saying about no room for solo casuals. I've also seen said homie ( we know who and I'm not trying to hate ) running his unique mace and straight ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on folks with it.

It comes back to the points I made about the way sweats and streamers stopped playing classic because they didn't want to fight FoL Cryos. Dude himself said ( Unique mace streamer ) that he goes into low green lobbies for "Good" PvP. As I watch him run down folks that are just learning the game with no mercy and act like it's not a problem from his side, it just makes me chuckle. I mean it's not indicative of the true situation but at the time he was getting like 2k views and only 5k were playing. So from that I can assume a lot of folks that were playing had to be aware of the situation.

Going into him using said mace. Yes he was pretty much one hitting people in full gear. Hell I seen him one slap a homie and went on to say that's one less player, 3 times.

I get that when you have no avenue to play the game you create content for that you will do what you can but the way that this game gave no ♥♥♥♥ about casual players is what put it in the situation it is and lord I hope that whatever ideas that they "feel" will fix the mess they made works.
True words, man.watched some of his videos. After every easy kill he smiles so widely, you can see how good he feels about himself after that,It just disgusted me so much. And after that he says "that's not fair,i feel bad for him" and then immediately rushes to another poor guy.every sweatlord with legos and unique is doing exact same thing.about 3-4 months ago when i still played a little,i couldn't find a single classic game without 1-2 guys full gear with nice sets bonuses and sometimes legos. You just see this 1 nickname in the right upper corner who is killing everyone and you immediately understand that this guy has rich gear and you have no chance to fight him..So you either try to escape with empty inventory or wait untill he finds you.
And also many teamers in solo lobbys.ppls writing about them on on steam discussions,at discord channel(where devs have special chat for cheaters and other unfair players),so you can send proofs there and they get banned.but same teamers are playing months witohut any punishment, when clear players sometimes get bans without any reason. That's so unfair to go solo lobby with 200k gear and then just die to 3 ppls team

If Marauders is any indication. This game is dead dead. People don't come back to games like this once they move past it. The Cycle Frontier is a perfect example of this. Season 1 they had ZERO Anti Cheat, literally.. 95% of the player base left.. They then implemented still to this day, the best Anti Cheat system I've ever seen in any game.. EVER... and nobody came back after 2 more seasons and it shut down despite great changes.

Unfortunately, despite how much this game had in potential. They've already 100% screwed themselves, and now the devs are just diluting themselves into thinking its salvageable because they can't yet admit to themselves, they destroyed their only chance.

Based off of Marauders, The Cycle Frontier, and now this game. I'm probably never going to look back. The biggest problem again being the fact that nobody wants to be the guinea pig either if it does get better, sitting in 30 minute wait Q's for weeks in the hopes more players pick it up. Thus.. The end is the end. Unless a major resurgence happens.

Just to be clear from my angle I'm not hating on the streamer.

I'm hating ALL the people that have been playing this game as a battle royale and running down whole lobbies like you can extract with everyone's gear ffs. The thing I hate the most is that they reduced the extraction portals and made the game even more sweaty.

When you are at the last circle and you have 2 available portals and the Pyro with full inventory would rather have at you then just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ leave.

When your inventory is full, ♥♥♥♥ off.

Rant done

That's honestly the problem with gamers and extraction games these days.. They see every game with pvP like a COD, with extra mechanics tact on, rather than a game, with PvP in it.

That is not the real answer of why this game went downhill.
The game has always been fun and fine, it's just people are too salty about PvP and losing their gear.
What really ended this game was the September 29th update, which made it impossible to join Classic mode, and forced you to do Casual mode wearing nothing but default gear.
The economy was destroyed.
The price of ordinary gear TRIPLED 3x for which the new players could not afford, so ultimately they could never do Classic mode which is where all the fun was.
They removed the cool bosses from Casual mode. <--dumb idea
They ruined this game on purpose in my opinion, why did they do it? They listened to feedback from die-hard Dark and Darker trolls who had only one objective.
Destroy this game. <-- Objective
Why would a bunch of DnD trolls waste their time coming here in the forums to be salty if DnD was so much better??
The reality is that we got a game that was extremely better than DnD, and it was deemed to good for us, so they destroyed it.
There is an evil woke force dictating that all games should be lame and gheyy, and when something actually cool comes around, they destroy it.
I played 5 minutes of DnD, and uninstalled immediately it was so bad, and nothing compared to Dungeonborne.

Do you understand now? They want to kill gaming and gamers off, by making our content lame as phuck.
These developers could have easily patched within a few weeks after that update when they realized they broke their matchmaking system.
They still have not updated anything, and never will, especially after the massive negative feedback from people.
The sad thing about this whole situation, is that it seems that there are sad individuals that wanted to see this game and community go downhill and die, and they got their victory.

Absolutely disagree.Ppls'v been spamming complaints about gear lvl for months. Many months whole steam discussions were about getting beaten with 15 gs by guy with 40+.Everyone sayd about it.That's the real problem.
" it's just people are too salty about PvP and losing their gear." - Not at all. It's not a problem when you loose just because you made a mistake or your enemy just outplayed you. That's fair gameplay. After all those fights you just get better. You analize your looses, you think about what you could do better, how you could outplay him, what you did wrong. And then you just gain experience and grow as a player. That's part of online games and that's not a problem.Problem comes when you can't kill other player just because he has better gear.when you don't even have a chance against him. When you meet your enemy, you parry his attacks, block, throw potions, use surroudings, dashes, movement, hit him many times and then you die and see he has 80-90% hp left.and then you spectate him and see his rly good expensive gear with legos (40gs+) while you has 15 gs with only 3 reliques and gray stuff. And you understand that this loose is not your fault,it's not about skill or better game experience.you lost this agame when you entered in 1 lobby with this guys. You lost this from the very beginning untill game even started.

As usual, PK edgelors killed a game:)

Not sure why the devs have not:
a) provided some incentive for folks to keep each other alive, small time bonus, (no clue about the lore of the world) but XY saint, demon whomever gifts you something cuz you did not kill anyone.
b) place the PVP behind a timer. Either time, or XY monsters need be killed.
c) make the maps bigger spawn points randomized all the time and shift them between matches, min max distance between spawn points. At least 1 minute should be required to reach another player's spawn point.

Fully agree with you, those decisions would have certainly made the game better

Sadly you missed one. very.single.little.thing : "it is not compatible with our vision of the game"

If you re-check all of the patchs they've made, you realise they wanted to reach a very specific goal : make another battle royale game

Rat tactics? nerfed harshly, spawn points exploit? never changed, they almost never changed the PvE which tend to say they focus on PvP mostly

Hell, just look at the 29 september patch, loot drops severely reduced, everyone forced to same rarity within same lobby, monster artificially harder, created adventurer ranks with PvP in mind, those changes was made to incentivise killing each other "don't bother with looting monsters, looting players is much more easier and more rewarding"

I might be wrong, but they tend to prove me right, otherwise why they made their game P"ve"vP when their focus was mostly about PvP? probably to attract oblivious PvE players to artificially bump their player numbers and give freash meat for the PvP addicts and sweatlords
