Death after red ring shrinks to 0
This is a really dumb mechanic. We took a red portal and farmed to the last few circles. We were unaware anyone else was with us. it let us in early so we assumed we were by ourselves. turns out there was another team with us. we killed them and then had to rush to a portal and it was the last circle. so we are running to get to the portals which were upstairs, (we had to drop down) and we got insta-killed by the map because the circle shrank to zero. Why do we get punished for playing well? We lost all our gear, one of us got out, but we get punished for winning the fight. its frustrating. idk what the point of that is when the point is to close the map and bring players closer together, but when they win the fight there is not enough time to get to a portal. and you just intsta die.

on your screen, upper right corner - you can see if anyone took the red/purple portal.
dont be unaware - pay attention.
you decide yourself what is more important, to leave or to fight.
some people decide to fight and die on both sides
some people decide to make an unspoken truce and leave the map altogether with enemy team.
youve chosen to die in glory, there is nothin wrong with it.

but i can agree that sometimes even without pvp there are not enough portals spawnin for 3 man team

That is not playing well. No awareness, no timings, no exit strategy.

The incredibly powerful magic that allows you to venture into those cursed places cannot be maintained in perpetuity, should you fail to return from your adventure in time the warding against the curse will fail, and with it comes the closure of all return portals.

When the timer hits zero, no amount of healing can stave off the inevitable, there is no longer a way out.
It is indeed a bit annoying because death occurs as soon as red ring shrinks to 0. Most people are familiar with battlerite royale games with gradual loss of health rather than death. I guess it's a lesson anyway.

its not instant, it ticks for huge damage - something like ~400 hp per half a second

Also what difference would it make? Timer runs to zero and you have x amount of time left until death. Or: timer hits 0 -> death. At least you know when it happens so your “oh ♥♥♥♥” moment should be a while before the timer runs out.
Same outcome, just that in this case it’s clear when death happens, so it’s actually better.

I’ve often thought that it might be nice to have the last standing team be awarded with instant portals or even plain guaranteed extraction, but I guess it’s just part of the game to plan ahead and hope the enemies don’t want to suicide bomb both teams. Not really sure if I would prefer the safe extract.

no difference, just corrected the guy abit.
dont waste your time and extract in time next time.
bad awareness shouldnt pay off.
i usually extract as soon as it shrinks to the minimap size - hope you will do same from now on

Sorry, that was kind of a misunderstanding. I think I quoted you to sort of add to your comment but "aiming" at the guy you quoted. As in "what difference does it make to sort of have a few extra seconds after the timer runs out instead of the timer being... well... the timer?"
I am fully with you, bad timing/decision making shall be punished. The system works fine in that regard.

There is no prompt after you take a red portal telling you another team has taken one. There were none that took one before us. We were about to leave, when one of our teammates got attacked one story below us. We were unaware of the mechanic of insta death after the ring shrinks. Its not typically the case in battle royals, if at all. We won the PVP after getting surprised attacked. That is playing well. This was the first encounter with this mechanic and my strategies will adjust here after. But we did play very well. That is a fact.
