I'm currently trying to get my heirloom staff to some build but in my stash I have the exact same staff, a "gift" from someone else :D
Sometimes i've got weird surprise like fire resist or "+6 shadow damage on weapon"
former is way too situationnal, and the latter seems quite weak in itself
Going back with what OP said, first you can upgrade heirlooms up to epic/purple, second while the heirloom type force them to have innate "+X% exp gain" instead of innate "+X life per kill" or similar you can find on "natural" magic/epic gear
Heirlooms chosen enchantments still make them quite strong, i mean imagine i can create a whole armor set with each armor giving me +6DEX and +7.2 MAX HP and +18% crit chance?
yeah, would make looting kinda hard to compete, would need like maxed rolls or perfect combinaison of enchants to make me think twice about changing stuff
Another thing OP seems to ignore, is that heirlooms can be crafted with either 2 materials of their rarity (extremely easy with heirloom still uncommon, become annoying when epic) OR using mithril tokens, how rare it is?
i dunno, ask maybe the NPC merchant who sell 100 mithril token for only 1000 gold each? and she restock like every week i think? So not that expansive to craft heirlooms back, much less than buying random gear to dismantle (10-15 mats per dismantle) and even less than buying the materials straight from the NPC merchant
Anyway, I've seen the bazillions posts of OP about wanting a PvE-only experience so it's evident that suggestion comes from someone who's looking after a traditional RPG experience rather than a balanced PvPvE looter-shooter^^
