The Four Gods and their function
Okay, so this is what I've gathered. In addition to granting pretty substantial i-frames:

War is a screen-clearing knockdown that damages everything you can see.
Rain recovers about half of your HP
Fortune makes you faster, and also makes enemies much slower, for a brief time.
Wrath... is exactly the same thing as War, but with a smaller hitbox?

What special function does Wrath have? It seems to just damage and launch all enemies in range, which is 45-degrees down on either side from the player and usually a smaller radius than War would be. I guess it technically applies a slightly different trajectory to the enemies (they have more vertical movement and don't go flying as far horizontally) but the cooldown off the attack is so great (and the animation can't be cancelled with a block) it doesn't really help with combo setup.

Am I missing something here?

That's basically the breakdown! Wrath is just a tradeoff between damage dealt and hitbox size compared to War...

Wrath does an enormous amount of damage; enough to kill common warriors and some basic enemies outright. With that much damage at once, it's also a reliable armor breaker in boss fights.
