Had to bin my playthrough
Was just assembling the gems I had into semi useful rings and throwing them around. I didnt realize how character making/breaking rings where till I saw the one that increased AoE scaling perks by x2. Started running into a brick wall where I couldnt keep the weakies on my team alive in the demon realm

Rings shouldn't make or break a playthrough, unless maybe on the highest difficulty. It's more about class choices and army composition... which you should be able to adjust enough.
You should be able to leverage Zanelle's gold steal ability in training to grind out more gold than training costs & buy a bunch of gems while getting a ton of gems from bonds from grinding.

You should not really need to do that to win, but if you want to get tons of rings you can do that.

I've tried this but I only ever break even.
Could just cheat for money too. I mean it might be worth it if it helps save the run.

As early as Chapter 6 it should only be taking 5 or 6 kills to break even, if you bought the perk that boosts the gold gained by 80. Lava Ring also boosts the gold gained; since you said that you made a bunch of semi-useful Rings then if you have one lying around it's worth using. I only just finished Chapter 6 and Zanele is at Level 10, and the Lava Ring is the difference between 192 Gold vs. 230 Gold per kill.

If you have a spare Astral Coin and Khamari is available then you could change him to Juggernaut (if you haven't already) and let him just be a wall for any Range 2 Magical enemy (which Training Maps seem to be full of). Then Zanele can just swoop in and collect the Monkey Tax. My record is 14 Zanele kills, 12 of which were done by Furious George.

Ah, I didn't know Lava ring works on it. Yeah I made her a Beastmaster so she gets that mana reduction.

Swap her to a tamer class. Funnel everything to attack a unit that can't fight back, and have Zenele waiting behind them to ambush the enemy with her monkey. Have Alden top up her mana. As soon as you can, craft the rings that boost abilities by 20% as well as master scaling by a certain %, and slap them on her as they both make you get more money, and turn that monkey into a nuke. You'll be pulling in fast cash in no time flat.
