I'll have to see in higher difficulties if dodging is more useful perhaps and if some utilities are more necessary to use but the game is quite simple so usually doing a bazillion point of damage every turn is the best strategy and to that end I find that classes like Conduit, Gallant (for enemy phase counter attack), and the arbalest class I forget the name of are the best.
The mage archetype feels like the most balanced to me all 4 classes in both tiers 2 and 3 feel equally useful and viable in a lot of builds and party composition. It feels like every other archetype just defaults to whatever makes sense in the party composition while Shamans do support duty with a varying degree of offensive and defensive capabilities depending on their class choices.
All of my characters have gotten speed-screwed except the first dual blade user, and so I've been building them as tanky as possible since the level 5 choice. Overall actually my characters had some terrible leveling on this run, and Gwyn is borderline unusable. I will probably just go with the classes that have the best stat spread in my next run and then by the time I get to my third class I can choose whatever sounds / looks the best.
Arthur - geomancer; nice utility and his personal is good for dmg already
Saxon - monk; wants to be on the frontline with his personal, and monk doesnt kill his mastery growth
Riordan - went with tamer since we get an elf archer who is already quickdraw shortly
Cassandra - elementalist, gets extra power to attack after healing (you can heal and attack in the same turn), the aoe is nice too albeit expensive, but her personal passive gives mana if she is close enough to the frontline
Arthur - Aegis, wanted a tank, and think it can dps from afar is base ability
Saxon - Gale, hesitated with Monk, but i liked the debuff and the art of the character (swordmaster ! )
Riordan - Got to quickdraw but i may change to something else since we got a second one shorly after (maybe ranger for another tank, or quickslash)
Cassandra - waveseer because i wanna see if the crowd control ability is useful or not
Cassandra Elementalist since area damage is desperately needed at that point.
Saxon Conduit (Chain Lightning one) because area damage.
The others just support this core team of damage:
Riordan Tamer to shield the group.
Valeria will be Seeker to debuff enemies (& heal, obvkously)
Gwyn Seeker also for big hits
*Laughs in having 2 high damaging tanks allowing me to bait enemies and split the party up without concern to easily sweep maps and finish with turns to spare. *
Riordan I made into a Quickdraw, mostly to help his not-so-great Speed and Dexterity growths. He's been doing pretty well in that so far.
Saxon, I went Monk. I don't fully remember why, probably because it seemed more balanced than the other options. He's been okay, but he's definitely starting to fall in usefulness.
Cassandra, I probably went an unusual route, and made her a Juggernaut. I wanted to make her tougher, and the significant Defense boost from Juggernaut helped with that. She's been pretty solid for me so far.
Finally, I made Arthur into a Scholar, because again, I felt it fit him the best. I already had one with Alden, of course, but so far I haven't regretted having two scholars around, and they've both been pretty useful (I'd say Arthur is my second-strongest character currently, after Gwyn).
Riodan I made a Quickdraw because it felt fitting for him, I also wanted him to have some decent speed and dex.
Saxon I went with Gale, seemed like a solid choice and cool vibes, but I think my next playthrough will be Monk.
Cassandra I made a Ritualist and she's been absolutely wrecking things in that role since she can heal and then smack a foe.
Not that the game is terribly difficult regardless of what you choose, I guess.
