Server Hosting State
I wrote this as a reply to another post but wanted to make a new post so we can further converse about this topic and I can answer any questions.

I own a game server hosting provider and the first thing I did when the game released was attempt to get Battlefront servers up.

I know for a fact no other providers cared about providing hosting for this game, but I do and it's not for the money as this game won't produce the same amount of players as bigger games such as Minecraft.

So firstly you can only host a Battlefront dedicated server by running the game and specifying launch parameters on Steam. This requires you to have a separate Steam account with a copy of the game just to host a server. £30 just to host a dedicated server each time.

Second issue, there is no dedicated server files. As briefly mentioned above if you want to run a dedicated server you have to do it through the game. Most games like Minecraft, CS2, Palworld all have dedicated server tools/files. They also offer Linux support.

Third issue, dedicated servers don't interact with Steam server list. This can cause a bunch of query issues as we must rely on the built-in server browser in game to view and find servers. And I already know there are issues with it because my test server keeps disappearing.

Right now I have a server that everyone can join called "Conquest [240 FPS Dedicated Server] - iceline.host" specifically in the EU region. I wanted to get more servers up for the community as well as sell server hosting so users can create their own game servers easily but until the above issues are resolved I don't see it happening.

My company reached out to Aspyr via official contacts to see if we can explore resolving these issues with them but we are yet to hear a response.

To recap this is what we need to make server hosting possible:
- Release dedicated server application/tool for Windows (and ideally Linux - can use Wine or Proton if not)
- Update server list and interact with Steam query
- Make dedicated server files accessible by "anonymous" user rather than paying for the game.

Hope this gives some insight guys

Thanks! I am also planning on hosting server. Original games had windows dedicates server files. Those don't work with this I presume?

Also just what is the actual state of this game?!

The windows dedicated server files for original games do not work for this game as far as I'm aware, which is a real bummer. Essentially we are better off playing the originals where there is actual server support minus all the current issues. I can see why the community is so bummed out.

there's no reason to host here now, aspyr is hosting, we don't need all those admins that bans everybody that kills them.

But yes, it's possible to host right now, the community available dedicated hosting tool is even better than aspyr server in many areas, but, you have to have two copies of the game, as Steam is required to run the dedicated server (for now)
