STAR WARS™: Battlefront Classic Collection

STAR WARS™: Battlefront Classic Collection

Can we all agree?
I like anyone, am a huge fan of these games.

I remember when I was a kid in 2005, playing battlefront 2 on my brothers ps2 with him, it was one of the few games I was allowed to play where he wasn't mean to me. Eventually I got the star wars big box pack of games at a walmart for $15 late 2000s for PC, included bf1/2, and republic commando. I grew up playing these games and still have them all, along with others. It's fair to say I have sentiment and nostalgia attached to these games as those were simpler times.

Having said that, I won't be buying this release. I don't recommend anyone buys it as this is a perfect example of a line we can draw as a community in the sand. Publishers keep putting 0 effort into these new releases, this is no exception, and I believe it's for the best that noone buys it. You can get PC disks for it dirt cheap, steam keys dirt cheap, and there are fan made mods for quality, remastering, and all the content you could imagine. Yet people will buy this simply because "Ooooooh, new shiny". Who doesnt have $35? well use that mindset and calculate the amount of money they make on this, simply because you have money burning in your pocket.

I'm no socialist, I am however tired of people who decide to enable publishers to strong arm the industry with poor quality releases, or lazy if you will, simply because they're just as bad. How low have our standards dropped? We live in a world where repackaged versions of pac-man cost as much as an indie game on switch, and the collection costs as much as this. They're robbing us not only of our money, but our entertainment. When did we throw away our dignity in saying no, I'm not buying this, I already have this exact game.

I suppose I should stop ranting, as that will only go to discredit me and drive a wedge in any actual discussion. I would appreciate if anyone who reads this would give their opinions, and talk to eachother on the subject as we all love these games.

I pretty much agree. Without crossplay, which can prob be added as a mod, I just don't see the point. While I prob put hundreds of hours in them way back when, now when I hop on, it is an hour or 2 tops.

The 50GB is also a concern, it just seems a huge increase for combined games that were under 8GB,
Consider this: Vast texture and MESH upgrades.
Textures are for the details, like a carpet or curtains, the paintjob. The meshes are the shape. Less blocky, more round shapes, improved animation work so it doesn't bend in unseamly ways, possibly new reload animations as well, or it's gas venting, since the laser weaponry is in all canons primarily gas powered, hence the varying colours of so many laser weapons.

Bug and glitch fixes, more modes added to more maps - or same modes, but on more maps. And a few extra maps added in, possibly a more expanded Galactic Conquest mode, plus the engine being reconfigured - or possibly replaced? - to work on modern systems. Improved VFX and SFX (explosions, laser appearance, sounds, voices), better AI, maybe a higher team cap, like 40vs40 instead of 32vs32 - which can be added to Battlefront 2 (2005) with mods and clever editing of the game as it runs with some cheat menus - which only made it more difficult to play if you wanted...

Maybe a few new heroes, possibly adding in more entirely new or previously cut maps, extended campaigns in singleplayer, or new campaigns added... so many guaranteed changes and addons, and so many POTENTIAL new addons, or maybe partial data for future addons, who knows.
No, it would be worth it even for just the graphical updates they made. But they added splitscreen and more. Of course we don't know how good it all will be, too early to tell. But so far it's looking good.

Consider the mechanics of the game compared to newer games.

The nade spam will be worse, Stay near a Gonk Droid, there will be unlimited nades and rockets being rapid fired.

The trolling with friendly fire, especially if people decide to try and steal heroes (this might be the highlight of the whole project).
Between nades and friendly fire, think of how many just open fire with team mates in the way or team mates who will jump in front of you, that will be 75%+ of kills in the game.

Based off previous experience, supports almost never drop ammo and health for team mates these days. I don't see the fusion cutter being used to fix med and Gonk droids. This might help people get rid of bad habits, such as spray and pray (guilty) and tanking damage, figuring you'll be right back at full after a few seconds.

If there is no crossplay, anything they are upgrading/ adding we already have mods for, which prob do a better job than this new release will. This is the 1 point that will determine if there is any need to 'upgrade', and it sounds like a no. I agree this is disappointing.

The majority ignore objectives these days, a few PTO players on 1 team will be able to end the game in a minute taking all the points. In the 2017 game, shut outs already happen in Supremacy, to the point I have asked the other team if they understood how the mode worked after 2 or 3 in a row.

Discussing this with some friends, the trolling potential, especially if there are public lobbies will be comical. They came up with ways that work that I never thought of.

if that was going to happen they would have listed it.

You make great points, I never thought to think about how "toxic" the game would be there days at that scale. The amount of trolls or people abusing mechanics would be insane considering the epidemic we have these days as far as people being obsessed with winning no matter what and only caring about numbers on the scoreboard, or just ruining the game for other people just trying to have fun.
I think it is obvious that this collection is an attempt to gauge interest in rebooting the original BF3; and for that reason alone I think it is worth buying. It has a price tag because multiplayer servers aren't cheap

That's even worse, consider that idea. They're going to use a re-release to gauge if people will buy a hypothetical reboot. We're expected to fund their next development? Is that not absurd?

They take no risk, if they instead, made bf3 as it was meant to be before it got chopped up and turned into a handheld game, I'd actually respect that. I'd be compelled and interested, but with this, simple updates to a game which fans did themselves a decade ago won't buy me.
