Why does everyone else (xbox, switch etc.) get to pre-install this but we don't? seems kind of stupid.

Valve has strict requirements for pre-loading. Which include the date you submit the final build before release. As this game got a package update around 12 hours ago (and a few before that), it invalidated valves policies for allowing preload.

The steam store should tell you the exact amount of hours left. For me it says 17 hours in the UK GMT. So 4AM on the 14th.

Ah right. Just seems a bit daft that we'll have to download it after it's released. Have to set my alarm for release hour so I can download quicker lol.
