Why over 50gb?
I really want this for the proper controller support, better stability, and splitscreen. Hence why I already bought it even though I have the originals on PC and both PS2 and OG Xbox. I keep seeing stuff about AI upscaled textures but for the life of me I can't tell the difference. At least let us have the "upscaled" textures be an optional download so I can have the game be like 1/5 the size.

I would love for someone to release a mod that restores the textures to the original size. Maybe someone will release a mod that does something like that. Occasionally you do see mods come out that debloat filesize (like for Mass Effect Legendary Edition or Uncharted 4) but that's usually for localization files.

The "AI upscaled" stuff is just whiny kids making up stuff to crap on a game being rebooted. The entire game engine was updated and models were upgraded in various ways. The game is just bigger (and its 2 games btw). 50GB is really not much. And I'm not sure why you'd buy a new version just to intentionally downgrade it.

I had the smallest sliver of hope 50gb was just a placeholder recommendation

They really should do what Bethesda did to Skyrim/Fallout and Epic to Fortnite. If you want the 4K super duper quality textures just let us to download them as optional DLC.

A near 5x size increase does not happen from an update to the models, which did not happen since you obviously haven't looked at the screenshots on the store page. Unfortunately for you I have a background in gamedev. The source code and 3d models for games like these would only make up a few hundred MBs. The only things that make up the vast majority of file size in games is textures and audio. In this case I guarantee its the lazy developers doing a blanket upscale to all the textures, through AI like they are being accused of, or other means. Either way, the upscaled textures should be an optional download so people can keep the file size down.
