Wait wait. AI upscaled graphics? And this is a remaster? What?
Okay okay.
So I have not been able to find good information on this but I'll just say if this is true I am absolutely disgusted. (Information I have read online and have not properly looked through if it is true or not. Correct me if I am wrong I currently don't have the time)

This game deserves a remake not a lazy AI generated remaster.

Remake - When you RE - MAKE the game from the ground up so no original code is used

Remaster - Where you make the game look slightly better with some slight control changes. Uses original code so it is more lazy and quick to release. It's like taking a dinosaur and colouring it silver.

From what I heard this game will have AI upscaled graphics and new multiplayer servers WHICH the Classic game on Steam already has (it already has multiplayer) and here is the worrying part. Anyone here heard of the GTA definitive edition and how it ended up? Anyone remember?

When this cheap AI generated remaster releases both the Classic BF2 and Classic BF1 will be delisted from Steam and again it is likely that they will shut down the servers for them too! So guys if you already own them be happy to be forced to buy an inferior version of the game you already own because you'll be forced to unless you don't care about multiplayer being shut down. Greed. Absolute greed. Actually it sounds more like lazieness and greed.

The best part is that they didn't even bother properly compressing the game like THE ORIGINAL DEVS HAVE DONE ALREADY! Standards people! STANDARDS, please. 50GB for a fossil of a game... The classic on steam only take 4.3GB by the way.

I keep seeing online people coping on this saying that "The remaster has multiplayer" when meanwhile the classic BF2 which is on steam and the old BF1C both already have multiplayer and people have already made mods which REMASTER THE GAME for you with little to no input needed. And they make the game look and sound amazing! There are even mods which add in the missing maps from that whole XBOX 360 exclusive stuff. I watched a huge ton about it too!

And by the way it is more than likely that If you were to compare how modders remastered BF2C to the Definitive edition of Star Wars Battlefront 2 classic which is of course still coming out you would see it would not be worth the money. £30 on Steam... I will be very happy to be proved wrong and just to see it being great but from the things I heard... I am not hopeful at all. It's just sad... This game deserves a remake not a remaster...

Imagine how fantastic the game could be if it was remade with new mechanics! Bigger maps! (Maps are already decently sized)

It would be so cool! But no. We are stuck waiting for a lazily made remaster. With AI upscaled graphics. I do know I will not wait for it. I'll just keep playing my own copy of it on Steam which I'll hopefully still have access to. Modern gaming industry.
We forge our own chains in life.
I had some great times BF2C. I hope players on console will have fun with the Definitive edition of BF2C.

this is not a remaster, they did not even claim it to be a remaster, its just a collection of the 2 original games with some improvements

nah, its more of a re-release in this case. there is too little change to consider this a remaster

No offense, but I feel like 3/4 of your text is based on pure speculation without any confirmation anywhere. You say yourself that you haven't verified the information, but you present it as fact later in the text. Maybe it´s just me, but I find it a little strange to read that you didn't have the time to research sources when there was enough time for such a long text. But that's not what it should be about.

Where do you find official information about the old games getting removed from the store? Where do you find official information about the old games being unplayable after the release of the Classic Collection? Where do you find information about the old servers shutting down because of the new release? ....

And yes, the old version already has multiplayer. But even the biggest fan of the old version should be honest enough to admit that it often works poorly (netcode). Getting visuable hit confirmations withount any decrease in health feels more common than normal hits in the old version.
I really enjoy playing the "OG" BF2, but please be honest about it´s flaws, because there is a lot the Classic Collection could improve. These things are also currently speculation (no one knows whether and, if so, what changes were made to the servers, netcode, etc.), but if there is speculation, please do so in both directions.

I personally don't share the opinion that remasers are fundamentally bad and only exist out of laziness for not creating a complete remake. But of course there are different opinions about this.

We all (justifiably) have criticisms of the Classic Collection, but it's not all bad about it, on the contrary. And it doesn't really help to spread rumors and speculation to make the game look as bad as possible when it might not be the case at all.

It would be better if we concentrated on the points that can actually be criticized in the final release, so that these can hopefully be improved in the future.

Thanks for the well written response.
This post was motivated by worry and not well checked sources. The main source was a youtube video with a bunch of angry commentators raging. The part about CBF2 and CBF1 being delisted part I assume is going to happen mainly because I saw Valve delist CS GO and replace it with the new version of CSGO and the servers being shut down I have not experienced. I have seen games being delisted and seen a player base dwindle to nothing but this was an experience from a game called TABZ (not fantastic game which was delisted from Steam. Still accessible if you look online). It has been a while since I played CBF2 because of life.
I have never seen a remaster in my life which doesn't have issues... The one horrid remaster which I can recall is Bioshock... Oh God...

A remaster is the same game but with a full visual overhaul and update; AI upscaling the textures slightly isn't really a remaster.

This is not even close to comparable. CS2 "erased" CSGO because it was essentially a giant update to CSGO, not a separate listing. You can still play CSGO by opting into a beta branch under CS2.

The Classic Collection is not replacing the old Battlefronts, it is not an update for the original releases, they are still here on Steam as separate titles.

Fair enough. I read through your post and it seemed like you were pretty anti-AI.
I mean here's the thing, does it really matter how the graphics get upscaled? AI upscaling is improving every day and if it makes it possible for games like this to get a modernization I'm all for it.

I dunno about you, but I'm not buying this for the graphics. I'm buying this for the compatibility with modern systems and controller support. I've always thought these graphics look just fine (IMO I think shooters should have simple graphics. I hate modern graphics with a passion. Way too detailed and I get lost in all the foliage and whatnot).

In all fairness, if you look in some of the screenshots they have done kind of a crap job with some of the AI upscaling. There's some weird color artifacting and some textures look fuzzier somehow.

Does't bother me none. As long as I can tell what something is supposed to be I'm good.
