mss32.dll AGAIN
ok so i solved this issue the first time around by simply renaming the mss32.dll file in my system folder, which was an easy workaround.

and then I played the game several times over a few weeks.

and NOW it's giving me the same error message again, except now there isn't even the mss32.dll file in my system folder, not even the one i renamed it to but it's STILL giving me the message. wtf.

You can easily download all .dll files that end up to be missing from the net. I recommend http://dll-files.com/ for that. Just download the missing .dll, put it where it was required and you should be good to go.

no, you see, the issue was that the game does NOT want the dll file in your directory/system folder, which actually means that NOT having it there is the solution to the problem, which in fact did work the first time to get the game running.

but now, for some reason, it's giving me the error message that it does exist in a system directory/folder, when in fact it does not. It's telling me something is there that actually does not exist and I cannot launch the game any more.

If you right click the game title and go to properties, look on one of the tabs (forgot which one) and click a button that sound like "reinstall" or "check files" etc. it'll read the game and check for corrupted files or missing ones and reinstall them, it may take up to 45 minutes though

Have you turned on the function to display hidden folders and files? It could be that there might be a file with that exact name as a hidden one. Try the search engine to see if any other place contains the .dll aswell.

i might try this. according to my downloads, the game had a recent patch or some added content recently, which might be causing this so hopefully this is the fix.

downloading random dlls from the internet doesn't sound like a very good solution

welp checked game for integrity and there were 2 files that were incorrect and let it re-acquire the right ones, however that still didn't fix the issue.

I don't even know why the hell the game is checking for a mss32.dll file in my system directory when the game uses its own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mss file right in its own game directory. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ spaghetti coding.

welp steam just took a big fat dump, and also managed to actually solve the issue.
running 8.1, but for some reason the dll file was in a different folder named SysWOW64
not too familiar with that folder nor why the heck the file was in there... but yeah game launched just before steam tranwrecked and managed to play for like 5 minutes

DLLs contain executable code. Downloading random DLLs from websites is a good way to download malicious executable code.

No one will listen to me, though.

A bit of a shot in the dark though I feel your pain, but maybe try running this in command prompt as administrator. sfc /scannow
