How to subdue demons?
There is most likely something I missed that explains it (I accidentally clicked through the dialogue during the tutorial when you first subdue one) but I'm a bit at a loss how you're supposed to subdue other demons. Is there a guide in game that I missed or am I just dumb?

The demon ou want to capture needs to be the only one left and you need to down them. You can down them by using an attack spell of an element that they are weak to

Look at you Workbench in your room. There is a item to gatch Demons. I think you need that item to catch them
I also have not been able to figure it out casually, it seems to just happen sometimes randomly for me? i'm going to make the items so i can control it i guess

I've caught them without them being the only one left, just EVERY Demon has to be in the down state, but it's definitely RISKIER if there are others up - it instantly ends your entire team's "turn" and if the subdue failed, you're in for a bad time.

Put all remaining demons in the "Down" state (hit them with their weakness, ie: fire, ice. It MUST be a damaging attack. The status effect ones don't seem to work). Once all demons are down, it'll trigger a "Hold up!" and you can either Subdue (capture), or All Out (a big, enemy team wide attack). Subdue will then roll a chance (based on your stats, like Guts, Smarts, etc) to catch. If you win? Boom. You got it. If it fails? Your team's turn is over and the demons instantly counter with a big attack that seems to always stun.

I've been able to reliably capture every demon on the battlefield multiple times. Here's my trick:
1. Have a demon that knows Deep Freeze, and use it in battle.
2. Have no more than one non-frozen demon on the field. Ideally, freeze them all.
3. Analyze the intended target and hit it with a damaging move of one of its elemental weaknesses.
If all other enemies are frozen, you should get the option to capture. Repeat as necessary until you have captured all of them.

this is nuts. I beat the 1st boss (kidnapper) without subduing a single demon.
it's hard enough to survive. enemies always come in numbers and spamming heals and status ailment

The problem is, ONLY the macho shiba inu character has actual elemental attack (ice and fire only)... the rest can only give debuff and normal attack...

Uh, Hugo is a corgi. And while I love (and have a shiba), how dare you! Hahaha

When the others level, at certain points they get to choose between 4 skills, sometimes they get elemental damage ones too. And there's also multiple items that down or even straight up capture demons.
