Game-breaking bug: Sam and the garden plate

Hi! I helped Sam find a job before getting the garden plate I need for the Asylum garden quest and now I am stuck without the final plate. I cannot continue the game because there are no dialogue options regarding the plate in Sam's new location and when I return to his old location he isn't there and I cannot get the plate without talking to him.

I saw the quest was fixed a couple of days ago, but I just got the bug now and... does it mean I won't be able to finish the game? Or is there some sort of code or other way to get the plate? (with grace symbol). It's really frustrating and I don't want to restart the whole game.

And no, I don't have any savegame, the point before I found the job for Sam was overwritten already.
