I have converted and edited some SP missions.
It takes a long time to learn by hit and miss if you are new to it.
Takes alot of testing to try to get it right.
123stealthbomber says in his YouTube "About" tab
"The GEM editor is a very complicated editor with little to no help to get people started,..."
PDF GEM Editor - tutorial - http://www.digitalmindsoft.eu/outcoming/downloads/Tutorial.pdf
Its from Faces of War, but has some basics for Gem Editor.
But looks like they never properly finished it.
Look at the folder structure.
That is 1 way to learn.
Major modders maybe asleep in other parts of the world, at work, school etc.
You only posted 3 hours ago.
The only way to learn it atm and in my opinion still the best way.
You do nothing with all these files. The Editor will load them up when you load the map (F2 menu) or the mission (F3 menu). You keep all the files in your missions folder and just work on the map file or the mission (.mi) file.
And you still keep them all together when you create your mod. For the structur of the mod just look how other modders have done it.
Also major modders get bombarded with questions how this or that works. Even Though I would like to help everyone its just not possible. Writing everything down takes ages and most people lose their interest in working with the editor anyway. So all that time spend in teaching them how to work with it is wasted in the end.
However after moving all 21 of the map files I got to the mod folder, I got the mission working of sorts, it played fine for about an hour, no real issues aside from no minimap and preview on the loading screen, and the MP 30% etc. at the top of the screen and objectives are showing my file path for the mod. Now really i'd be done with all this as these mods are only really personal use so i'd finish after getting this far knowing I should be okay in the future but I do wanna know how to - A. get rid of all the filepath crap showing up during the mission and B. have more than 1 mission on my mod.
I can understand the work load the major modders have but it's frustrating that despite how much ground you guys have covered showing the GEM editor, there's very little info out there explaining files and folder structure which TBH is the most crucial part of the modding process, otherwise nothing will work after all the hours spent editing
