how do i use a radio operator ?

First of all keep radio op secure hidden behind some cover, his range is 60. You can fire flare gun which fires <5 flares and then it reloads, wherever the flares land smoke appears and artilery rounds are called on those locations. If you using radio op in those defensive missions currently in game even when he runs out of ammunition he will automatically resupply after few minutes.

Dont forget to "cease fire" with him, or he will easily reveal himself... also try to avoid enemy artillery fire (when he gets shot, his body "blowns" so you cannot use his radio anymore) and snipers... so carefully, sneaky ;-)
