Men of War: Assault Squad 2

Men of War: Assault Squad 2

Officers?
Can't find anything in the manual about the Officer unit. What exactly does it bring to the game?

They used to have a signal flare gun (like the radio operator) but I guess they were deemed a little too powerful. Now they just get 3 stars with weapons, some ammo drops, and binoculars for spotting enemies at distance, which are unique to the unit. They're useful if you have time to micromanage them and spot targets, but generally they're pretty niche and expensive. Neat unit, though.

Thanks. Was just wondering if it was worth it to call one in on the Hurtgen Forest mission. But I don't think so now.

their LoS is really good, if you can manage to sneak one out in the bush somewhere and lay down you can get a good fix on your enemy movements

I can see why the dev's didn't bother to mention the unit in the manual. Really sounding like an incredibly limited unit. No morale bonuses, no calming influences. No flare gun. Hmm. For an extra fifty points I can have a whole infantry unit.

Btw. I am not complaining. I love this game, and the fact that they have opened it to modding is fantastic. Thanks for responding to my post.

So what happens when the officer spots enemies with binoculars ?
How does he tell / warn you that he has spotted them ?

I see this officer (binoculars icon reinforcement) in USA Bostogne sniper mission,
but have never seen the value in him. I can do the mission fine without him.
Is there a video somewhere showing what use he is ?

He spots soldiers hidden in the bushes. And in multiplayer, he spots soldiers on a greater distance trough fog of war.

I guess, upon further reflection, for 100 points, the ability to ammo drop to a unit instead of calling in a truck makes it worth the points. Makes your units a little more flexible. Gonna go try it now.

In certain builds he was a key element of my offensive back in the days when it came to big battles like 3v3 and above. Once you have established/stabilzed frontline and want to prepare your advance he is key. In a nutshell, helping to break the stalemate is where he excels. In MoW:AS2 I haven´t used him yet.

Officer cannot be bought in Hurtgen(however you can kill 1 early mid map and do try to scavenge his body as it contains number of heavy ammo paradrop nades which contain mines that you could plant for last part of the mission, some people actually do this and delay capturing last flag just to get all the mines planted ahead of time).

Now, as for officer on mission like Bastogne or Khrakov, O()O do you ever play the game with realistic fog on? or at least on heroic where starting enemy units are usually hidden. Thats where officer comes in extremly handy as he can see extremly long distance with the binos. You can easily spot targets and look for snipers etc.... Further, he also contains those heavy paradrop ammo grenades which provide ammunition, at rifle ammunition, ap and at mines along with sandbags which is quite usefull depending on your strategy.

I never play with fog on because it looks like a day torch effect.

Sorry, meant Bastogne.

They are useless in multiplayer at the moment. It would be nice if they had some sort of aura, that increased infantry accuracy. Something or ability that is fitting for a officer

Playing with fog is true challenge because you only see what you should see based on your units placement:) Thats when sound also plays role as it helps you hear incoming vehicles and even infantry as they run through bushes.

Don't foget that they have an ammo crate that supplies mines. So you can effectively turn any squad into a AP or AT mine squad.
