If I am not into MP Matches. Is the Single Player Modus (Story and Skirmish?) any good for the Axis?

There is variety of missions/skirmishes for each faction however there is no story.
Germany has 8 missions some are basic assault where you have to capture enemy flags to get resources and repell enemies, others are centered about defending vs tank waves, then you have smaller scale missions centered on infantry with stealth and sniping.

You should search youtube and you may be able to find some videos of few missions such as

You can also play them in coop with up to 8 players

There is a campaign (or several actually, one for each side), but it just have a series of missions with little in the way of story connection. Assault Squad is the multiplayer-focused part of the Men of War series. If you want a story campaign, play the original Men of War, Men of War: Vietnam, Men of War: Condemned heroes, Men of War: Red Tide, Soliders: Heroes of World War 2 or Faces of War. They are all good, in my opionion at least. In Vietnam & Condemned heroes you just have a handful of soliders on each mission, while some of the other ones offers larger battles.

But if you don't want a campaign and don't want a storyline, skirmish is decent? I have Assault Squad, just trying to decide whether this is worth it for SP skirmish only. (I don't do MP)

I would lean towards no. Get any of the SP-focused MoWs instead, they are better for this. I found the skirmish to be repetitive and not very fun in MoW:AS 2 (and AS1 as well)

Don't forget there is also workshop for this game besides already big modding community since mow series.

You can get quite a lot of hours out of the skirmish missions, the 15 new ones are interesting, like the tank defence ones which can be challenging, theres also the workshop for some great missions from awesome modders.

If you are looking for a campaign, i'd say give the first MoW a try, has a great campaign, there is also Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2, which is the first game of the series and has a brilliant campaign.

Workshop has a bunch of great single player mods. enough to keep you busy for some time to come.
