Next you can go to http://www.digitalmindsoft.eu/forums/forum/dms-games/men-of-war-assault-squad/english-ad/modding-aa and there are some resources there, next if you search for gem 2 editor on youtube you should be able to find plenty of guides too, if you search for gem 2 edtior keys or manual you should be able to find stuff on google as well, basic 2 small manuals are also included for editor under mods\tools under your game.
I recommend looking how a simple mod is done and then experiment on map making or script making while editing your own mod that way you dont mess up game files, learning how things are scripted in official or mod missions is good way to learn some things if you want to learn to script missions etc...
I second this, about 2 weeks ago I decided to give the editor a go. And now am already fixing old skirmish missions to work with AS2 and browsing through a ton of models, skins and anything that I find to be intresting. (Note: For personal use only, respecting all the creators property). I learned alot by just looking at how other people mod things, and indeed looking on Youtube. Scripting and making maps is still a bit to far. But I first want to understand how the files work and to fix any errors I encounter.
Good tip: Make a copy of the items you want to mod in case you make a mistake you will have to original files. I made this mistake to many times haha.
And final, a big thumbs up for all the awesome stuff I have seen so far. Models, skins and also the historical value in alot of missions is much appriciated. Am a big Military history addict so
I really enjoy it.
Thanks All. Greetings from The Netherlands.

You will need 3dsmax either way.
To export the models to files the game can read.
There was a couple other software pieces you could use for earlier games like FoW and MoW. But they are no longer supported.
It ain't easy making or altering models. Just putting that out there.
