I didn't know this before though, but I got the hints. It started in either this game or the first assault squad, on the beachlanding-esque mission. I practically defended while periodically advancing with infantry and flamethrower units in buildings, until it eventually bogged. I literally got screwed for about a IRL month or so on that one mission, with German tanks both destroyed and just disabled littering throughout the whole map. It got so bad to the point that only amassing vast amounts of zerg/level infantry and rushing heavily defended northern lands was the only way to progress. Especially since tanks nolonger had cover besides utilizing bodies of the fallen.
Even the one airborne guy I had set up midway, utilizing German ammunition by that point, eventually got hunted down and killed after wiping out some of the anti-tank defenses. I even made a horde of Sherman types to rush the final lines, which most of which got nailed by the end but provided much needed cover for the infantry and weaker vehicles. It was a full scale massacre because I didn't get the hint to just rush the fools. Barely any buildings were left standing, most of the beach and forward positions were tank graveyards or craters, and defending the tank rushes from taking remaining points were hell. But I eventually broke through harder than the Germans going around the maginot line. Then there was one desert level with the brits I believe, where I placed a hedgehog/tank trap and barbed wire fence cutting off half of the map. But that time I did it just to see if I could.
Even though I know this is a necropost by this point, let it be known to anyone seeing this:
If in doubt, don't wait it out.
