How to use Commonwealth's Commando?

I don't play the Commonwealth as often as other factions, so I am really interesting in the usage of Commando units.
To me they seem really weak for a mid tier infantry unit, with very short ranged weapon.
I think standard US squad has more firepower than Commandos.
I usually just skip them and go for SAS directly.

So, what's real purpose of them? Are they some kind cheap stealth infantry?

the de lisle rifle is your friend. From a stat perspective 40 damamge compared to most rifles at 20ish.. They pack a punch at middish range . Silencer sten also packs more damage if i am not mistaken.
