Japan 320mm Spigot Mortar nicknamed "Ghost Rocket"
What do you think guys about this unit ? Do you think it would be worth 10 hero points ? (and HoRi1 woould drop to 8 or 9)
+ question for modellers - do you think this unit can exist in towable version ?
Any discussion and opinions are welcome :-)

heya opavius, good to read you. As I always say, more units we have, more choices to deploy.

I would welcome any new add to the units roaster

BUT

we still have huge troubles of crash and quitters to fix before (through ranked games option in mp for example)

I would like to see it
Lé Raptor - the one we already have is standard mortar with 150mm tube. But this one is something between mortar and rocket, thats why it is called "spigot mortar" - it is a tube with a mortar shell / rocket. And with 320mm calibre it is way more powerfull than 150mm mortar ;-) In fact, its a bit more powerfull than 300mm Ha-To.

The reason why i am talking about this is the fact, that HoRi1 is together with Black Prince the least used 10 p hero unit. So this can be probably new top hero unit. But i am not sure with the maneuvrability of it, if it would be worth 10p...

P.S. Hot Lips - i know this is not important now, but why not to spend some time discussing ;-)
Opavius, calm down already, there will be no new units in the near future. Actually i doubt the developers will implement new units at all. Maybe +3 spacial units for each country in a year or so. You are just wasting your time.
And i have not seen 10p special units in a long time, 1-5p units are the most effective right now. So no need to make new 10p spacial units.
i would give it half spec point,

because is an enormous inaccured inefficient weapon with 6 shells max and very very very slow speed moving weapon.

My opinion is max 1 point cost, max 120/150 points cost

Borat - wtf ? :-D I was later thinking about 5 HP, because even if it would be slow in movement and reload, 320mm roound would be extremely powerfull... But yep, maybe not worth 10p....
IT was just a bang, not a real fragmentation bomb. for that reason it shoul be ineffective
Yep yep, it is known it has more a "moral" impact than some real damage... but on the other side, there is no need for super mortar bomb, this would be more like "direct hit" weapon - so if you would have luck and hit some wehicle / or close to wehicle, you would be able to kill it or damage it... but with low damage radius...
It is a very devastating weapon indeed, would definately destroy a tank with a direct hit, maybe even close to it like dynamite, but i'd only see it acceptable in SP missions than MP really:

-it is a very large weapon, the projectiles are pretty much just as tall as the soldiers, the tube is just shorter than that, it would be extremely slow to move aswell, cannot be towed

-the tube had to be placed on a sloped wooden platform for firing (which was big), with no moving base, it would only have its accuracy as its firing arc and would have to constantly rotated to the direction you want to fire

-would only have 5-6 shells, with a fire rate of maybe 1 every 1 minute

-as it was not rocket propelled and instead used charges in the tube, also with the weight of it, it would be short ranged

-would need a direct hit to be effective, does have a nice blast radius but won't kill much or as wide as other rockets

-in a fast pace MP match, it would take alot of work to use and would need effective cover for being an easy big target

Its good to do research on stuff before thinking of adding it, i'd say about 3-4 hero points if it were to be added.
I did research and know all the things you posted, but i just wanted to discuss it... :-) Since i am not a modder, i was not able to think out if it is possible to implement...

In that way, what about to have them 2 ? For 10 HP. Also, with range at least 250 metres it can have a chance to be towed away with its crew before getting shooted by enemy arty...

After all i was searching for anything related to Japan, that would be possible to implement for 10 HP... maybe, switch HoRi1 with HoRi2 ?

Ho-Ri 2 can be alright to switch, considering its better in armour, i believe you can by it with MP in competitive.

Are you sure that the range should be limited to 120 at MOST? The japanese 150mm mortar can already fire to a range of 130.
I think it would be min. 200, maybe even more. Also dont forget, its not classic "mortar", but spigot mortar, which is something between mortar and recoilles gun - which means even more power than classic mortar. Also i searched and it was used in many ranges, the more "powder" they prepaired, the longer range... so something between 200m and 250m, or maybe even 300m would be OK. Plus the fact, that if you fire 2 of them, it can be quite powerfull ;-) At least in damaging / killing a tank or smashing emplacement or gun... 2 of them for 10HP, i think possible... But on the other side, it can cost just 5 or 6 HP and be as another hero unit, while HoRi2 would exhange HoRi1 ;-) Because for example USA has also Pershing as normal unit, and better Super Pershing as hero unit... + New model for HoRi2 cuz the one we have its old...
The ranges are unrealistic to what it was and compared to the other weapons, majority of spigot mortars actually had short range capability, 120 is actually being generous compared to the ranges of the other weapons.

Type 98 320mm Mortar, Range : 1,300m

Type 97 150mm mortar, Range: 3,900m

Type 4 200mm, Range: 2,400m

Type 3 300mm Morar use by the Type 4 Ha-To, Range: 3,000m
Well... good research :-) Ok than, maybe HoRi2 would be the choice... or at least fix HoRi1, its frontal armour is on some places weak...
